Weird ATC Sound Issue

Featured Replies

After an extensive Web Forum search I've been unable to find a cause and solution... so I thought I'd try a post here.

My FSX ATC sound is not working in VC.   The green text bar scrolls and the speaker level indicator shows activity... but no voice comes through.

If I switch to 'Outside View' or open outside view in a New View window... voila... there's the ATC voice.

I can close the New View window and the ATC voice will be on in the VC now... until the next time it cuts out.

I have P3D v2 loaded on a separate SSD and the ATC voice is doing the same thing as in FSX.

Well, whenever I lost ATC's voice, it was usually due to Windows' sound options being set to anything other than 2.1 (I only have a 2.1 sound system).

Apparently, FSX puts ATC on a different channel than other sounds so you can have it on headphones while having engine sounds on your regular speakers. Or something like that.

If your having problems keeping the ATC voice sound volumes stable with FSX Windows 7, try this. It worked for me. Open Control Panel/Sound/Communications, Choose the "Do Nothing" option then Apply. I guess it's reading the ATC as a phone transmission.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts !

As everything else is set the way it should be in "Settings"... I suspect that it's an issue with the FSX 'voice channel' and my 7.1 speaker set-up, as Bjoern suggested.
