December 27, 200421 yr Is anyone seeing terrain mesh errors when running TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL at a value of 21. I am using UK VFR Terrain, and wish to get the full benefit, but I keep getting troughs appearing that bare no relation to the landscape (see picture below).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101828.jpgThis problem occurs even when I disable the VFR terrain package, and was not one I encountered when running FS2002.Has anyone else had this problem and/or resolved it?Many thanksSatchmo
December 27, 200421 yr Sorry I can't help but have the same or similar problem in FS9. I am running it at 20 and still get errors. Mostly it is visible as solid white lines. I would be most appreciative of any hints on how to minimise these lines.
December 27, 200421 yr Those are most likely bits of default scenery bleeding through - namely stream cutouts and road autoflattens. I'm surprised you only see them at TMVL 21 as they appear at all settings. They appear to have no relation to the landscape because default scenery is so inaccurate that the real photographic roads and streams are far away from the cutouts.Try this:First make a backup of your terrain.cfg file. Call it e.g. terrain.cfg.bakNow open your original terrain.cfg file with e.g. Notepad. Use the Find and Replace functionality:Search for:offset=and in the 'replace with' box type://offset=Click replace all. This will "comment out" all offset lines - check the text to make sure all lines starting with offset= now start with //offset= instead. Save the file and start FS to see if they are gone. You'll probably want to switch back to the default terrain.cfg file when not flying over this scenery. -
December 27, 200421 yr Have a look at this posthttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...14296&mode=fullJohn
December 27, 200421 yr After reading other replies and re-reading the original post I now realise my problem is a different one. Sorry to confuse the issue here.
December 28, 200421 yr The only problem I have noticed with TMVL=21 is at Simflyers Phoenix scenery. This is the problem people are having at PHX with TMVL=21 http://www.simflyers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=433 and no one seems to be fixing it. :-grr And you can't lower the TMVL cause with you will have problems of gates beign raised off the tarmac and planes falling through the tarmac.
December 28, 200421 yr Thanks for the info JimmiG & John.Commenting out the offset= lines worked a treat. I had uninstalled the UK VFR Terrain mesh whilst trying to fix the problem, so reinstalled it after making the recommended changes..and every thing is now looking perfect :-)Many thanks Indeed:-waveSatchmop.s. The RealAir Spitfire combined with TrackIR Pro3 + Vector Expansion is truly astonishing :-eek
December 28, 200421 yr >Satchmo>>p.s. The RealAir Spitfire combined with TrackIR Pro3 + Vector>Expansion is truly astonishing :-eek> Satchmo - what Video Card are you using as I have an X800 Pro and I got it from somewhere that TrackIR is not too happy with Radeon (or am I confusing the vid card prob with eDimensional 3D Glasses not being happy with Radeon)Appreciate any help,Shep
December 28, 200421 yr Yes you are confusing it. 3D Glasses work poorly with ATI (and IMHO not soo good with nVidia and FS2004 too).TrackIR works outstanding regardless of card type!
December 28, 200421 yr Satchmo,(edit - oops! I see you already have it fixed!)Here is the solution provided by John at Visual Flight.FAQ: Unwanted troughs (auto-flattens) in FS2004http://www.visualflight.co.uk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1609
December 28, 200421 yr >Reinstall PHX with TMVL set at 19...works just fine then.I tried that awhile ago and the don't work (at least for me it didnt) At PHX there are taxiway bridges that go over roadways and with the TMVL at 19 the plane falls through these bridges.
December 28, 200421 yr Author Wierd. I have mine at 19 and taxi over them all day long with no problems. Eric
December 31, 200421 yr I have also been getting white lines whenever I fly over any mesh scenery. Does anyone know how to get rid off them?In this picture, the white lines are pointed with arrows, but usually the lines are much thicker than these ones. I tried to change TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUSTERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUSthe numbers of these, but the lines do not go away no matter how high or low these numbers are.
