FSX Computer Specs

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I was just wondering which computer would be the best value for playing FSX:

ASUS M51 Desktop: $699 including Assassins Creed (could sell it for $20 maybe)

3.3 GHz AMD FX-8300

8GB RAM

2GB NVIDIA GTX650

1TB HDD

or

HP Envy 700 Desktop: $799

3.4 GHz i7-4770

8 GB PC3-12800 (1600 MHz DDR3); 4 GB PC3-12800 (1600 MHz DDR3)

2 TB HDD

2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 635

Would it be justifiable for an extra $100 for the HP Envy?  I don't game at all, just need a computer that can run FSX smoothly with decent graphics.  If the AMD FX-8300 is good enough to run it with decent graphics, I would probably just buy the ASUS and save $100.

You're opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The second would be the best, in case of changing the vga to at least GTX660.

REGARDS.

For a basic computer or business application, off the shelf is fine.  For serious gaming and simulations, building your own is the best route.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Mhm, but I'd still never buy off the shelf. Putting a computer together is way too much fun (for me).

Also, he said it was for FSX use  :P

FSX is very CPU demanding, so get the Intel.

Also, FSX was written for Nvidia video cards, and both computers have those cards, although the GeForce GT 635 is not very powerful at least it has 2GB of VRAM, combined with the Intel CPU you should be fine.

get the AMD fx 8350, youll save money compared to intel 3770k and the 4770, not to mention if your set-up is good youll actually get more frames in more applications/games other than FSX.

get a SSD, start with 128gb if money is a problem, and look no further than Samsung

GPU - no older than the 660OC version, your in the USA, stuff is cheap there, in my country im considered royalty since i got that :D

minimum 8gb RAM with 1600mhz (no XMS)

1tb HDD for big stuff that wont go on the SSD

700w PSU - why? - because its safe on the long run or later upgrades

greets :)

daxx66,

I am a bit late here, sorry.

The OP wanted to know what to purchase for FSX, and that leaves your comments regarding AMD CPU very poor advice.

I am sure he has purchased a computer by now, however.

Ivdon, let us know what you purchased and how well [or poorly] it performs with FSX.
