AA performance hit with dx10

Featured Replies

Hello guys,  I gave an honest effort with dx10 but I have went back to dx9 for only one reason.  The AA just wont work for me.  I have to run such hi levels of sgss to get rid of the shimmers and jaggies compared to dx9.  The biggest hit I believe is using sgss with dense cloud cover.  This is using NI and a gtx 670.  Is anyone else seeing this issue?

Agree, too many clouds and x4 SGSS is a killer.

On the other hand, with the FSX "Fair Weather" theme it's really smooth.

Reloading or re-installing your cloud textures (be it default or from 3rd party) have made a huge difference for some people. After re-installing new textures, I think it was a good idea to clear your shaders cache. There was a whole thread on this, but due to the unbelevable slow AVSIM servers today, I keep getting "503 Service Unavailable" message whenever I try to search for it...

Hope you find your way. I'm seeing a performance hit in thick overcast as well, but nothing more than I did in dx9. There is a solution I'm sure...

I think the disadvantage of DX10 is, you have to set 4x SGSS to get rid of shimmers. No problem so far in fair weather conditions, but when it comes to really bad weather even my GTX 680 get into trouble and this gpu isn't that bad.

The performance hit, logically, is much heavier than with 2x SGSS I set under DX9, because SGSS filters the entire scenery not only transparent textures, as supersampling does.

  Hey, Nick!  Happy New Year!

It's nice to be able to run 8x, but you do know that you can do this only because you're running 1680 x 1050 - right?

Matt hasn't provided any hardware settings, so we can't really advise him.

Gboz is running 4.3 gig and four monitors, so it's little surprise he's having a struggle with just 4x SGSS.

These are the killers.
