January 1, 201412 yr I think that Active Sky next is a brilliant product but one thing nags away at me and it is this; When flying at say 35,000 and with my weather map showing scattered or broken clouds at say 3,000 feet all I can see below is clear ground scenery with no hint of any lower altitude clouds. Now,I am wondering whether or not this is normal or if it is to do with my cloud settings within FSX. I always fly with Live Weather. I apologise if the answer is obvious but when flying in true life at this sort of altitude you will always see clouds below. I thank you in anticipation. MIchael Michael Broom
January 1, 201412 yr Hi Michael - your experience is different than mine. I certainly see low altitude clouds even from 35,000. I just completed a flight KMEM-KMIA on VATSIM and had lots of clouds during my cruise phase at FL330. And all of the cloud cover, regardless of their or my own altitude, conformed with the cloud cover depicted on the ASN map. Are you using FSUIPC? If so, be sure to turn off ALL weather-related settings within FSUIPC. What textures are you using for clouds, and how many cloud layers have you enabled within ASN? Perhaps there's something limiting the depiction of clouds within the sim. Make sure you're not running any other third party weather program, also. Let us know how it goes, and hopefully, others will have better suggestions should your issue continue. Wayne KlocknerUnited Virtual
January 1, 201412 yr Author HI Wayne, Many thanks for your reply. Firstly,I am using FSUIPC but I have never done much with it.When I click on FSUIPC in my Add On menu I see 3 boxes namely,Normal Defaults,Clear All Weather and Weather Settings Off.When you stated about ensuring that All weather related settings must be turned off,I am therefore wondering if before each flight I have to go into FSUIPC and press the Weather Settings Off button,I would appreciate your comments on this matter. For your further information I am using REX cloud textures and although I have a REX,Opus and FS Global weather engines I do not activate them as I am only using ASN,which I think is superb I addition my cloud layer setting within ASN is 10. I would really value your further observations and I thank you in advance. Michael Michael Broom
January 2, 201412 yr Leave the cloud layers to the default of 5, you really do not need more than this with the way ASN works now. You only need to press the weather settings off button the once in FSUIPC, you are not required to do this every flight. Cheers, Andy.
January 2, 201412 yr Author Thanks Andy, I shall try your suggestions and report back. Michael Michael Broom
January 2, 201412 yr Author Just cannot get this to work. I am currently doing an KBOS to EGLL flight. At KBOS I am getting snowy weather which is accurate and upon departure I am getting thick cloud etc. and again this is accurate. However at say 15,000 feet my weather map is showing me wall to wall cloudy conditions below with precipitation. However when I look down at the ground I do not see any clouds at all-just the normal ground landscape. This is just so frustrating and cannot seem to crack this problem. Any further help/advice would be appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation. Michael Michael Broom
January 2, 201412 yr Author HI, Still cannot resolves this problem would really appreciate further help. Michael Michael Broom
January 2, 201412 yr Michael, I've not got this issue with ASN. You should pop your head in over at the hifi forums though. They will offer you direct support over there. Cheers.
January 2, 201412 yr Author HI, Thanks for your reply. I have already raised a support ticket with HI Fi themselves, just waiting for a reply. Michael Michael Broom
