January 11, 201412 yr Why do I want them to animate? So I get visual feedback that the trim is being adjusted in the correct direction when using the quadrant (remember we have no tactile feed back in FSX). How do you set trim prior to takeoff in your B777. I would like to do it off the Quadrant, is this wrong? Set takeoff trim using yoke switches, and check via FCTL page on MFD synoptic menu or green band indicator. Wes Meyer
January 11, 201412 yr Author This is what I was alluding to in my earlier post. The STAB TRIM handle on the quadrant of the real aircraft, from what I have been told, is not normally used much, the switches on the control wheel or yoke are what is used. Hence, this is why I suggested using the switches on the left hand side of the yoke, or right if you wanted, so simulate the STAB TRIM function. I think the reason no one else has tried to do this is because it does not make complete sense, especially in a FBW aircraft. The "REAL 777" has buttons on the yoke. If you haven't guessed by now, I am anal, lol. You are right the quadrant trim lever is not used often, but the kind of person I am is if it is there, it should work. I like immersion factors to my sims as much as possible, both physically and monetarily. Last night I have gotten it so close to functional I think this may be it. The problem is trying to satisfy both the visual and functional part makes it subject to compromise. I can't believe Boeing would put so much effort into a trim lever on the quadrant that is useless, this must have some sort of practical function, like setting trim prior to take off, that is what I use it for. Set takeoff trim using yoke switches, and check via FCTL page on MFD synoptic menu or green band indicator. Wow your quick on the replies, thanks. You are right to suggest that for someone who just wants to fly, I want a bit more. Ric Elmore

Nothing wrong with wanting realism, just remember what the controls are actually used for. The 'normal' way of setting pitch trim is using the yoke switches, the 'alternate' way is using the 'altn trim' handles that you are trying to get working. I don't believe that the altn trim handles are servo-driven and therefore don't move. Now on the 737, this is different as you have the trim wheels, which do move. Wes Meyer
