ASN with latest update - stability?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.  For those of you that use ASN, have you had any issues lately?  Any CTD's or similar?

When I used the trial right after it came out, I did get a couple CTDs during that week of evaluation.  Something that doesn't and hasn't happened that often before or since using ASN.  However, with my current weather engine seemingly getting worse when it comes to "smooth" flight from departure to arrival, I am seriously thinking of going to ASN.  I'm just a little apprehensive based on the week of trial.

Read ctd code from appcrashview. Without it you don't know what was real issue

Kevin,

I don't know if this helps, but I have never gotten a CTD from ASN.  My week trial went well and I purchased at the end of day 7.  My flying over the holidays was extremely limited, but I'm back to regular sessions the last week or so, and have had no issues.

What I have experienced (I think twice now) is the extended hang problem others have reported, but as I've had this happen (again, only very sporadically) with other wx software and more complex planes, my personal opinion is that there's an underlying root cause that's NOT the fault of ASN, but that ASN or other add-ons that can be demanding on occasion simply unmasks it.

Hope that helps.  Bottom line is that I'm a very satisfied ASN user so far.

Yeah.  I definitely agree with this.  Unfortunately, I did not dig into the cause on both occasions during that week so I really don't know.  By no means did I mean to imply that it was ASN's fault as I know there are many factors that can cause issues and could be due to any combination of things.

The reason for this post though is I've seen other posts too in regards to some issues others were having.  I'm just trying to get a better idea on if those are mostly rare cases(which is currently the impression that I have) and the vast majority of users don't experience problems.  I know FSX is susceptible to crashing every now and then and I hope my two instances were just flukes.

Overall, I really loved my experience with ASN.  It is the only weather engine right now that can create that "smooth" experience - that I know of.  I know the current one I'm using isn't coming close for me now, that's for sure.

Kevin, I have been using ASN for about 3 weeks now, without issues. The only gremlin was using Opus cameras with ASN, but have sorted that now.

I use ASN on a Laptop via simconnect, and has been very stable. Like you, the other weather engine had become too unpredictable. Very happy with ASN.
