Kernelbase.dll error

Featured Replies

I just purchased the retail of Steve's Scenery Fixer and switched over to DX10 and starting from a fresh config file I tweaked it as per the instructions however now for the first time ever sometimes when I start up FSX and switch from the Free Flight button to another area and then hit the Free Flight button again I get an immediate Fatal Error as soon as I hit the button.  The Event Viewer is pointing towards a "Kernelbase.dll" error.   Any thoughts on this?

This is an automatic message.

There are several reasons for this error.  I recommend following the suggestions at the following link - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/kernelbase-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm.

Ok I'll check that out.  Odd that it only happens in DX10 mode and never in DX9 mode or at any other time either.

Hi BogeyFree - I've passed your post on to Steve via email, as I'm not sure that there's not something going on which may well be DX10-related. We've certainly not had this issue before, but we need to look at it.

I've been Googling the error: one came up with this:-

"I fixed this on my x64 win 7 machine setting service: "Performance Logs & Alerts" to automatic and starting."

but I can't find any clear clues, so at this moment - a couple of suggestions: 1). ensure that there isn't a permission problem - ie - run as Administrator: 2). open a command window and run SFC /SCANNOW and let it finish. 3). uninstall the Fixer, and then reboot, and then re-install it. 3). Follow this:-

You can try reregistering kernelbase.dll and check.

a. Click Start and type cmd in start search. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.

b. Type "regsvr32 KERNELBASE.dll" without the quotes and Press Enter.

c. Restart your computer and check.

Here is what the .dll does.

Here's another which was fixed.

I'll keep looking and will post back here as I find some better pointers.

While we're at it - would you mind putting your pc specs into your User Profile, please, so that it appears under your avatar: then we can see what hardware you have, and other things, loke oveclock details..

Thanks!

All the Best,

pj

Ok I'll check and do what you suggest.  I just got a little disillusioned when I installed the DX10 and immediately was greeted with that problem, along with no Tool Tips anymore.  But I am willing to work at it.  Let me know if you come up with anything.  My PC specs are already listed under my avatar.

I ran the SFC and all was ok however when I tried to re-register the Kernelbase.dll in the Command Prompt I got an error message that read --->

"The module "KERNELBASE.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.

Make sure that "KERNELBASE.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."

I haven't yet tried re-installing the Fixer.

Good question.  I'll try that tonight and report back.

Having plowed through the site in Jim's post, (I don't think you've had the time to get to item # 12, yet) - it looks as though you might be in for a reinstall of Windows 7...  :(.... but reinstall the Fixer first, and if it still bombs - reinstall FSX.

One that Steve suggested that might be a cause...do you have the UIAutomationCore.dll in your FSX root folder by any chance? If so - what version?

Steve - no it does not crash when just in the DX10 Preview mode without the Fixer installed.

Paul - I have the file but it is not installed in the FSX folder at present as I never previously needed it.  It is version 6.0.6001.18000

Ok I have reinstalled Steve's Fixer and set up my NVI and config file and will test it tonight.  I'm still a bit unclear on Bufferpools so given my hardware setup what should I enter in the fsx.cfg for Bufferpools and would the entry be the same in DX10 as for DX9?   Thanks.
