January 23, 201412 yr I was looking at 747-200/300 videos and was wondering what did Flight Engineers end up doing with their careers once airlines only needed two pilots? 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
January 23, 201412 yr That's a good question for Airline Pilot Central: http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/
January 23, 201412 yr Commercial Member All the ex Tri Star engineers I used to know either moved to the right seat or retired once the fleet was phased out. I would assume the same thing happens around the rest of the globe. Btw, plenty of jobs still around working on classic freighters. Regards Rob Prest
January 23, 201412 yr Well... at least 2 of my colleagues at a major airline maintenance division have been flight engineers and became aircraft system engineers after the 747 classics left our fleet. Of some others within the airline I work for, I know they were trained to become pilots. Regards, Frank van der Werff
