Videocard update with $160 budget

Featured Replies

thanks HiFlyer, its nice to know. I will look at 2 gig cards

is the r7 260x a good card for heavy games like Fsx or Battlefield?

See how much ram its eating? Bad quality because he taped it instead of using fraps so the frame-rate wouldn't be affected.

The Nvidia 660 cards by EVGA and others is a good card in this price range. I upgraded last year and it has done a great job for me.

A GTX 660 is around $215.

Much higher then his $160 budget.

Hey kiddo, just check some reviews about the GTX660 and R7 260x , both are good. But better if you check the reviews.

oke I will

thanks

I have done some (little) research.

the gtx 660 is a very good card but the price is a bit to high for me

the r7 260x is in my price range but not such a good card.

i've found a Sapphire HD6950 with 2 gigs, would it be a good card?

You want nvidia for FSX. I would save up for the 660. It is the lowest card that is still current with the times, and is a great budget card. The 560 is a generation behind it, and slower. I would save up for the 660, and get it when you have enough. You will be far happier than getting a lower card and then finding that it does not work for you.

thanks for your advice, I think I save for the 660 like you said.

And just to restate, stay away from ATI/Radeon cards if you are primarily running FSX/P3D, or other sims like DCS A-10C, Rise of Flight, etc., for that matter.   The Radeons have never been able to properly digest things like clouds and transparencies in these sims, no matter what generation or model.      I know people with $500 ATI 7950 cards that still get significant stuttering with heavy clouds in FSX.     There are Shader 3 mods for FSX that mitigate this ever-present Radeon cloud problem to some degree, but it's really a band-aid approach to a larger conflict with either hardware shaders and/or driver issues on ATI's side.

Also, ATI card prices are completely out of control right now in terms of volatility, and grossly inflated by retailers over the MSRP (can you say Bitcoin mining).      Nvidia will serve you so much better on the rendering side in the sim and you won't have to play ATI's accidental but on purpose price gouging game as they essentially have now resolved to cater to Bitcoin miners instead of gamers.     Can't wait for the bottom to fall out of this new business model.     :)

But yah, the GTX660 will serve you very well in FSX.     Look for discounts, promo codes and sales.     You can figure a base price of around $200 as of today for that card, but definitely find the best deal.      Newegg, Amazon, B and H Photo, and Nextwarehouse are all reputable online retailers with decent inventories and regular sales/promos.     Pays to shop around!

thanks, the lowest gtx 660 is $144 but the problem is that Newegg don't ship to the Netherlands so the price will be a bit higher. But I will look for sales like you said.

Thanks for all the advice you guys gave me, its been very helpfull and I know wich card I'm gonna buy. Thanks

Daniël

honestly you guys are so lucky to have search low prices for the GPU's , heck even the R7 260x is costly in India.
