January 31, 201412 yr Hi guys, I bought an EVGA GTX780 to replace my 560TI and so far I'm not too impressed. I have an Intel Ivy Bridge processor 3570K running at 4.4 GHz with 16 MB of 1600MHz dual channel RAM. Both the OS and FSX have their own SSDs. I've tried running the sim in both DX9 and DX10 (I've bought the payware DX10 Fixer), modifying fsx.cfg and the 3D settings via the Nvidia Inspector using the guides by NickN, Word Not Allowed, Tabs, Paul etc etc etc. But I'm still unable to get the results I was expecting from the video card upgrade. DX10 mode, using latest Nvidia drivers (332.21) in 1920x1080x32 mode, with 8X CSAA in the fixer and 4x SGSS in the Inspector, with all the sliders to the max except autogen (dense). DX9 mode, using latest Nvidia drivers (332.21) in 1920x1080x32 mode, with 8XSQ and 2SGSS in the Inspector, with all the sliders to the max except autogen (dense). The test is performed by having PMDG's 777 sitting in the runway at FSDT's KJFK (v2), in daytime, with broken/ovc weather depicted by ActiveSky Next. With 25% Airline AI Traffic (using MyTraffic 5.4c) and 25% GA AI Traffic, my current fps with the GTX780 usually move between 6 to 9fps. Setting AI traffic to 0 will improve the situation to a smooth 25 to 35 fps. Considering I was able to fly in and out of KJFK with my fps fluctuating between low to mid teens, using the same computer but with a slower Nvidia 560TI, I'm somewhat baffled. Even setting the AI traffic slider (airliner traffic) to 7 or 8% doesn't do much in terms of improving fps. My question is: is it me or are you guys experiencing similar ugly fps when flying in or out of that area with the traffic sliders set in such a low setting (25%)? Unfortunately my 560TI died and I'm not able to "roll-back" and try to reproduce the scenario with it. Your comments/feedback is most welcome. -Enrique Enrique Vaamonde
February 2, 201412 yr You said you modified the FSX.cfg. Did you let FSX build a new one when you replaced your GPU? If not, you should give that a try. February 2, 201412 yr Its not your card. You would probably get 6fps with the default that was shipped with your pc. Good luck, there have been a few threads floating around with similar issues that were sorted in the end ZORAN
February 4, 201412 yr Author Hi Zoran & Jeff! Jeff> I tried applying the changes to a fresh copy of fsx.cfg. No difference. Zoran> I ended up uninstalling MyTraffic 4.5 and going back to flying without AI. I will try reinstalling it next weekend and see how it goes. I'm just unable to get anything beyond 8-10fps with AI slider at 10-15%. It's very frustrating. Thanks guys -E Enrique Vaamonde
February 4, 201412 yr Just curious, have you disabled Aero in Win 7? That could make a big difference. February 4, 201412 yr I recently retired my old GTX480 and replaced it with a GTX780Ti (rest of the specs are in my profile). My benchmark scenario is sitting on the runway at Orbx 1S2 Darrington in the default C172, default fair weather theme, 30nm visibility. All sliders to the right except autogen which is at very dense, and water which I like on 2x Low. With the old GTX480 I'd get 28-30fps here, and with the new GTX780Ti I was getting 40-42fps, which to be fair quite surprised me as I wasn't expecting such an improvement. If I had to guess something's gone awry with the drivers, FSX.CFG or Nvidia FSX profile when you upgraded. In addition to deleting your FSX.CFG and letting FSX build a new "clean" one, something you might want to try: Uninstall your current Nvidia drivers and reboot. Download the latest drivers from the Nvidia website and install these, being sure to use the "clean install" option. Get your sim up and running and check all is well before applying any tweaks to your FSX.CFG or Nvidia Inspector settings. Nick
February 4, 201412 yr Author Hi Jeff, yes I have disabled Aero ... I'm using Windows 7 as ugly as if it were Windows 3.1 ;-) EngineRoom> I have done all of what you suggested... getting solid 35-40fps without AI ... but as soon as I move the slider it's back to 8-10fps. I have uninstalled MyTraffic 4.5 and will try installing it again next weekend. If all else fails, I guess I'll live without AI until I have the time to format & reinstall windows. Thanks again guys -E Enrique Vaamonde
