February 13, 201412 yr Amazing that even the airlines who are having teething issues are still placing additional orders and acknowledging that when they aren't having issues the aircraft is exceeding their expectations. I think that says a tremendous amount about the airlines confidence in the 787 and Boeing's ability to get it right. Boeing just needs to work through the bugs (as they did with the 777) and the 787 will be a winner. Unfortunately there are some people who want to use every single incident to make out like the sky is falling on the entire 787 program and just holding their breath waiting and hoping for it to fail so they can say I told you so. http://media.norwegian.com/en/#/pressreleases/norwegian-acquires-four-new-787-9-dreamliners-960737 Keep posting away. I guess this short circuit with the IFE on a 380 (can you say Swiss 111) is a non incident because it wasn't a 787 http://avherald.com/h?article=46f4c8ba&opt=1 Atlas B744 near New York on Feb 12th 2014, engine shut down in flight Oriental Air Bridge DH8B at Nagasaki on Feb 12th 2014, hard landing Arann AT42 at Shannon on Feb 12th 2014, aircraft at gate lifted off due to storm Tuesday Feb 11th 2014 Kuwait A306 near London on Feb 11th 2014, hydraulic failure Monday Feb 10th 2014 Alaska B738 over Pacific on Feb 10th 2014, problem with navigation system Sunday Feb 9th 2014 Jetblue E190 near Boston on Feb 9th 2014, vibrations Saturday Feb 8th 2014 Dniproavia E145 near Moscow on Feb 8th 2014, engine fire indication Friday Feb 7th 2014 British Airways B744 at London on Feb 7th 2014, cabin did not pressurize British Airways B744 near Dallas on Feb 7th 2014, smoke in aft cabin United B744 over Pacific on Feb 7th 2014, fumes on board Pegasus B738 near Sochi on Feb 7th 2014, suspected hijack attempt Thursday Feb 6th 2014 Endeavor CRJ2 near Rochester on Feb 6th 2014, suspected bleed air leak Wednesday Feb 5th 2014 Southwest B733 near Norfolk on Feb 5th 2014, problems with cabin pressure Flybe Nordic AT72 at Joensuu on Feb 5th 2014, piece of plastics blocks control surfaces TAP A321 at Terceira on Feb 5th 2014, bird strike Trans States E145 at Memphis on Feb 5th 2014, wing tip strike on landing Chukotavia DHC6 at Anadyr on Feb 5th 2014, runway excursion on landing Singapore A333 at Singapore on Feb 5th 2014, gear door remained open Air India B788 near Kuala Lumpur on Feb 5th 2014, all flight management computers failed Tuesday Feb 4th 2014 Exploit Valley B190 near St. John's on Feb 4th 2014, control problems Hawkair DH8C near Terrace on Feb 4th 2014, turbulence injures flight attendant Canadian North B733 at Winnipeg on Feb 4th 2014, APU fire indication on final approach JoyAir MA60 at Zhengzhou on Feb 4th 2014, nose gear collapse on landing Monday Feb 3rd 2014 American B763 near Manaus on Feb 3rd 2014, transponder indicates unlawful interference Air France A321 near Amsterdam on Feb 3rd 2014, smoke on board Sunday Feb 2nd 2014 East Air A320 at Kulyab on Feb 2nd 2014, runway excursion on landing Niki A321 near Faro on Feb 2nd 2014, cracked windshield Air India B773 at Mumbai on Feb 2nd 2014, blew three tyres on landing Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
February 13, 201412 yr Now imagine any of those incidents above including: smoke in cockpit, smoke in cabin, problem with navigation system, cabin failed to pressurize, short circuit in IFE, hydraulic failure, fumes on board, engine shutdown in flight, gear door remained open; imagine any of those happened on the 787, it would be front page news and some people and reporters would jump all over it. However, because these things happen everyday on airplanes all over the globe it goes largely unnoticed until it is a 787 and then the reporters and naysayers come out of the woodwork. And yes, I will challenge the OP directly, if YOU saw the issues above reported on the 787 would you be here posting? Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
February 14, 201412 yr I already made that decision not to fly it until the batteries and issues which are fireproneare dealt with. And while the 777 comments are true there were no life threatening fire initiators in the design of the 777 unlike the 787. That is all. So maybe you should contact Air New Zealand, who are the launch customer for the 787-9, and tell them that they have made a grave error in ordering the type. As they are second to Finnair as the safest airline in the world, it would be a shame to see that record wiped because they decided to purchase an unsafe aircraft. I hope you contacted Qantas, to tell them to ditch the 380, engines melting down etc etc. I have made it a policy not to post in any of your pointless threads, but on this occasion I have made an exception. February 16, 201412 yr Paul, is it "Have a Wonderful Day" or rather "Have a Wonderful Day (With Exceptions)"? Not sure what you're trying to accomplish here, Paul?!? What happened to AVSIM
February 16, 201412 yr olli4740, on 16 Feb 2014 - 10:32 AM, said: Paul, is it "Have a Wonderful Day" or rather "Have a Wonderful Day (With Exceptions)"? Not sure what you're trying to accomplish here, Paul?!? Olli, Since you asked me a question directly I will do my best to answer it for you... (always be careful what you ask for though lol) All I am trying to "accomplish" is to point out that there are serious incidents all over the world every single day in various aircraft. Very few other than the 787 make flamboyant headlines or if they do they are ignored because they aren't a 787. In fact, the 777 had the exact same nav failure with the 777's losing their database and shutting down years ago if I do recall correctly... I have directly challenged the OP as to why he comes to post (in a very sensationalist manner) every time there is an issue with the 787 while ignoring the thousands of other issues on other aircraft all over the globe daily. It is a fair question I believe. I am also pointing out it took 5 years to get the 777 to 99% reliability. If the internet was evolved to the same point it was in the mid-late 90's as it is today I bet there would have been a bunch of 777 haters at the time too. I wonder where they are today So I am simply challenging the OP on his repeated sensationalist assertions that the 787 is an unsafe aircraft (which seem to be made by the same person every-time there is a problem with the 787) And Everyone should have a wonderful day, no reason you can't have a conversation and challenge someone's assertions without it being personal. I don't feel I have been disrespectful. Perhaps a bit tit for tat with some of the OP's comments towards my ability to keep posting or deciding to close the thread on his own while completely ignoring the question posed to him but hopefully not disrespectful. That is never my intent in Tom's house. Apologies in advance if it has come across that way however I would have the exact same conversation in the exact same manner with the OP if we were face to face IN Tom's house which is always how I gauge if my conversation is appropriate in an internet forum.
