February 12, 201412 yr Hmm I don't think I would know that. but there is a settings file under resources you could check that out. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 12, 201412 yr Author If you're not an advanced user, use a PPA instead of downloading a driver from Nvidia. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Install-the-Latest-NVIDIA-331-20-Drivers-in-Ubuntu-13-10-399182.shtml Had the 319 drivers running OK. But decided to take your advice and did the following: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Under additional drivers it showed 331 selected. Everything seemed fine. Rebooted "System is running in low graphics mode" OK button. How do I proceed ?
February 12, 201412 yr Commercial Member I had that yesterday. I did install the lsb package with synaptic, downloaded the newest from Nvidia and installed as described above as 2nd method. Several reboots are fine so far. You could also simply try to reconfigure using the backup settings. That worked for me but after a while the same trouble came up. Or go back might be the easiest for a newbie.
February 12, 201412 yr I think they are not installed correctly , you may need to reinstall them. Infact the 13.10 contains stable Nvidia drivers as it works well on my Laptop which has a GT525m , Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 14, 201412 yr Author Sorted it out. All good. The culprit was bumblebee. Had to purge it in terminal. Next question would then be : How can I set the FPS to 30 (half of refresh rate) ? Thanks for all the help so far guys..
February 14, 201412 yr Good you sorted it , how is the performance on Linux ? Hey wish I knew the frame locking thing, but I doubt it is there in XPX except the one to lock to monitor rate. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 14, 201412 yr Good you sorted it , how is the performance on Linux ? Hey wish I knew the frame locking thing, but I doubt it is there in XPX except the one to lock to monitor rate. There is a half rate setting in the settings option Donald E. Donovan Flying is the 2nd greatest thrill known to man The 1st is landing.
February 15, 201412 yr Author Good you sorted it , how is the performance on Linux ? Hey wish I knew the frame locking thing, but I doubt it is there in XPX except the one to lock to monitor rate. Forced to run at 60 FPS. Not as smooth as in Windows 7. Fans are noticeably louder than in Windows 7. Need to keep reconnecting my Saitek rudder pedals. Plus XP10 Demo installation does not set the correct file permissions on the XP10 install. Ubuntu 13.10 is a no-go for XP 10. Anybody else running XP10 on another Linux flavour that is using Saitek rudder pedals without issues ? Bummer . . . There is a half rate setting in the settings option No there is not. The only two settings are : -do not lock -lock to monitor refresh rate
February 15, 201412 yr Hmm I am using the demo on LMDE on my laptop, though the laptop is not too powerful but with the default settings I am seeing it pull to around 15 fps and does not look bad. But I don't have any saitek stuff , just on plain logitech attack 3 Your fans are louder as I mentioned earlier , linux uses the full capacity of the hardware. For permissions you should use chown and chmod . Can you tell use what permission error are you encountering ? Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 15, 201412 yr Author FPS are good....but because I cannot lock them at 30 I keep jumping between 15 and 60... I sorted out the permissions. All good now. The showstopper is really the rudder pedals throwing my Windows 7 install off too. Once Ubuntu starts and does not see the pedals, rebooting into Windows also disconnects the pedals. I simply cannot keep diving under my desk to reconnect them once I switch OSs.
February 15, 201412 yr Check this link maybe it will help you http://developer.x-plane.com/2012/09/linux-joystick-permissions/ Also can you check the log file after connecting and disconnecting the Saitek Pedals ? even dmesg will show you the relevant hardware. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 15, 201412 yr Author I have added the rules - just tested XP10 and it looked OK...But when I closed Ubuntu and switched back to Win7 my pedals are gone again. The only reason I have Ubuntu is because of X-Plane. Not abandoning FSX, P3DV2 and DCS World. Therefore, I will likely ditch Linux - at least for a few months. Thanks for all your help. Appreciated.
February 15, 201412 yr Well that is a windows issues , can you check with the Saitek drivers or something. And most welcome. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 15, 201412 yr Commercial Member I had similar issues and my CH joysticks work now but I forgot whether this: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=71300&page=2 or simply reconnecting and rebooting twice each to different usb plugs helped. (rather the later) Also the low graphics message was fixed by using gdm and not lightdm on 12.04.
February 15, 201412 yr Author Well that is a windows issues , can you check with the Saitek drivers or something. And most welcome. Don't agree that it is a Windows issue. I have had these pedals for years. Rebooting Windows never got them to be unrecognized. Problems only started when Ubuntu got installed. If I only wanted to stay with Linux I would be content to stay where I am. But as I contemplate constant OS switching I will not settle for the inconvenience of plugging/unplugging my USB pedals ad nauseum. Plus I see that there are more new XP10 add-ons that are Windows and Mac-compatible only. My shiny new Marquise does not jive with Linux. Will try a few more things though..
