Scenery config editor usage?

I want to make sure I'm using this program correctly.

Let's say I only fly in the PNW of the USA.  I open the default scenery.cfg, uncheck all the other boxes except default scenery and then all the Orbx scenery that I have.  First I save it as PNW.cfg so I can pull it up again.  But to actually have my main FSX install reflect these changes I need to also save this as Scenery.cfg correct?

If I want other regions I have to open the config editor again, then re-check all the airports/scenery I want, then save it as Scenery.cfg and start FSX?

Am I correct in thinking FSX won't disable airports unless I save my custom cfg as the main scenery.cfg?

Do not use the Scenery Config Editor to enable/disable Orbx/FTX scenery.  Use FTX Central.  If you disable any of the FTX scenery and then later on go into FTX Central and disable all Orbx/FTX scenery, it will get confused.  There is a way to enable just KSEA in the PNW (for instance) but that would require adding the scenery to your Scenery Library.  If you do this it is all recoverable but it takes some time to recover and the Scenery Config Editor does not fix mistakes like this.

With the Scenery Config Editor installed, just open it up, click on File and then Open your working scenery.cfg.  Now you can edit it by enabling/disabling only the sceneries you plan on using during a flight.  I would not recommend disabling any of the default scenery.  They do not take up many resources anyway.  It's the addon stuff that starts bring systems to their knees.  Nothing against the scenery developers.  Their scenery works great by itself but, when loaded with many others, a lot of resources will be used with all that stuff running in the background.

Nothing in your Scenery Config Editor will be saved to your working scenery.cfg until you click Save.  Then, when you start up FSX, the working scenery.cfg will be working, not your scenery config editor.
