Prepar3d v2.1 and traffic - which one runs best

Featured Replies

Just in the process of choosing a traffic programme for my prepar3dv2.1 (realise that I will need the Estonia migration tool to install it) but narrowed it down to My Traffic X lite (may eventually upgrade it to the 3D version) or My traffic 2013.

Would be interested in opinions on what will work best out of the box (I understand with 2013 I might just be able to install it using EMT out of the box but the X lite might need some tweaks to get it running?) - interested also on the FPS impact as well as ease of install?

  Hi mac22,

I have My traffic x 5.4 installed in FSX& what I did was just copy the entire  My Traffic folder into the P3d v2 main folder . Then go into your p3dv2 Cfg file & add these lines. SimobjectPaths.9=MyTraffic\Aircraft or what ever #you have available after sim objects. I have traffic all over in every airport with no performance hit. ( These same install directions are over at the My traffic forum).

Ron thanks - I guess what you are saying is for both X and 2013 I could just install them with the EMT tool - and then ensure the .cfg has the line in it and it should work?

1)Might you be able to provide a link to the my traffic forum page for reference - note I also have an older version of my traffic pro 5.3b installed in my FSX so I might give this a try also before upgrading - i)from what you say I need to paste the whole mytraffic folder into my prepar3d folder (which one exactly) ii)what is the full simobjectpaths9 line you are using in your .cfg (what are you pointing it to?) iii)I have a mytraffic communicator installed from my FSX version do I just leave it alone?

2)Are you using the MyTraffic 3D 5.4 which I think is prepar3d compatible or just the FSX one?

There is a My Traffic 5.4c which is specifically for p3d, I believe. That is what I use anyway.

Hi Mac,

No I did not use the emt at all, just copy the entire My Traffic  folder from fsx  to the MAIN folder in the p3d v2 (in my case it is in E Prepare 3dv2), in the cfg file the line # 9 In my cfg is pointing to the My traffic folder, DO NOT run the communicator , there is no need to. As far as the My traffic forum just google it & it will show up, you might need to register. It is on the Sim Flight Network

Ron thanks am giving it a try now!

One final question It appears from the instructions you have to create/add mytraffic as scenery within prepar3d and put it above propeller items did you need to do this step manually or was mytraffic already appearing in your scenery library or did you need to create it and point to the mytraffic/aircraft folder within the prepar3d folder set up?

Is 5.4c working for you in prepar3d v2.1.  If so, can I install without using EMT?

Thanks for your reply.

Works for me.  I had to change the simobjectspath in config.  In 2.1, installation puts it at end, which is #9.  I could not get it to work.  I renamed it to #7, and made the above existing number to become #' 8 & 9.  It's worked fine since. Do not use the "configureator tool".... 5.4c IS MyTraffic3D.

Will install in P3DV2 using the My Traffic installer?

The 5.4c that I bought in Simmarket is advertised for Prepar3d and I installed it without extra tools or moving files around. It seems to work in P3d2.1 OK.

I actually manage to get my older 5.3b running in prepar3d v2.1 but it absolutely kills my fps going from 20-30 (with about 30%traffic at San Fran Intl) to about 5-10!! so I bought mytraffic x - so not so impressed it gives me about 15fps rather than my usual 20-30...

Has anyone had any better success with other traffic add ons?

I just remembered, I had to alter the p3d.cfg as the configurator gave two entries in the sim objects section the same number, only shown up by that content error tool, but easily fixed.

Thanks John. I installed it last night with the EMT as per an instruction I read on Mr Traffic forum. Worked great without any manual intervention. Runs well also. Thanks again. BTW, I see they think they will have a V2XX installer shortly.
