Is an i7 4770K necessary? for FSX?

Featured Replies

I have the i5 4670K and it works just fine and dandy. It will clock itself up to 3.8GHz when under load so I don't even bother to overclock as I hate excessive fan noise. The only major difference between that and the i7 is hyperthreading, and you don't get any real benefit with that in FSX. Some people with deeper wallets may argue otherwise but in practical terms the i5 has much better dollar value for flightsimming than the i7. Why pay more?

Thanks for the reply. I think I will go with the i5, I am trying to budget. Sounds good!

Theoretically FSX likes the bigger cache provided by the 4770K.

What this equates to in real terms is open for debate.

The other point to remember, is that the i7 may have been binned as a faster chip, so you may have a theoretically better chance of a higher overclock than with an i5.
