March 15, 201412 yr Hi Guys,I recently bought some new components:-GTX770-Intel i7 4770K-Asus maximus Vi Gene-Noctua NH D14 coolerMy old components still in the system are:-RAM: 4 x 2GB DDR3 PC10666 CL7.0 Platin. LV-Samsung 1TB SATA300 32MB, HD103UJ-OCZ GameXstream 700W-Win 7 64bitI'm still not happy with the performance. Before I'm attempting to overclock the machine I try to get the max out of it.My goal is to play the game with 20-30fps with:-PMDG NGX/777-additional hardcore scenery (like amsterdam X from Aerosoft)-REX4 HD textures-IVAO online software-All sliders maxed out (apart from light bloom(off) and traffic(about 50%))Currently I'm getting around 11fps in these conditions. My Questions:-Are my components capable of delivering the performance I want?-If no: what should I upgrade to get the performance?-If yes: What should I do to get the performance (overclock)?Thank a lot!Cheers,Jasper
March 15, 201412 yr Overclocking is the only option, and even then, with a lot of add ons, you won't be able to run everything at max. Did you set a good affinity mask for your processor?
March 15, 201412 yr There is no way you can max all those sliders to that extent with complex scenery addons and a complex aircraft like that. Overclocking will definitely help a little. For complex scenery and aircraft situations try turning off road traffic (cars); keep marine traffic to a max of 20%; keep airport ground vehicles at low and bring AI down to 30%. In a complex situation bring autogen down 2 notches from max and keep water at 2x Low. I don't have your particular scenery or aircraft, but with FSDT Vancouver and FTX PNW and the LDS767 I can maintain a solid and absolutely smooth 30fps by doing the above. I do have a better graphics card and ram however. With less complex aircraft I can add about 10-15% road traffic, one more notch of autogen and turn the water up to 2xHigh. I keep frames locked at 30 in the sim and if they drop below that in a given situation I just lower my settings until I can maintain the 30 fps locked. That way everything stays nice and smooth. As soon as I can no longer maintain the locked FPS the stutters will rear their ugly head. I save several setting combinations for various situations with names like low, med, high and ultra so that I can quickly load different settings if I fly into a more demanding situation. When flying a less demanding aircraft away from large urban centres I can indeed crank up the eye candy - one combination of slider settings will never be optimal for all situations. Another thing to watch is your AA settings. They too can have a big impact on performance if set too high. For future upgrades consider switching to faster ram (PC2400) and a GTX780 Graphics Card, but remember even then you have to be realistic with your settings. March 15, 201412 yr Commercial Member I had low fps with my new 3770k, disabled intel speedstep technology in bios, fps went sky high. Sent from my U8815 using Tapatalk 2 Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
March 16, 201412 yr All sliders maxed out (apart from light bloom(off) and traffic(about 50%)) Impossible. No computer can do this for any length of time without issues. I would recommend following the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide for the best settings for your system. The guide is located under Hot Spots to the right of this forum. March 17, 201412 yr Author Oke thanks for your reactions guys! @OutofPhase: I set affinitymask at 84, I found that setting on this forum. Is that good? @TurnAndBank: Thanks for your realism. I understand FSX is impossible to be played with all sliders maxed out. But I always have the fealing that with understanding in optimizing both software and hardware I should be able to get more performance. @Pe11e: I tried your tip but unfortunately it didn't give me more performance.. @firehawk44: Thanks! I guess I pretty much have done all the described tips but will take a look anyway. Cheers, Jasper
March 17, 201412 yr It depends if hyperthreating is on or off. If you have it enabled, you have the correct setting. If HT is off, you should use 14. I advise you to turn off Hyperthreating in the bios and to set Affinity mask 14, as FSX works more efficient without HT and it will get the temps of your cpu a bit lower. Also, remember that an over clock is the single most important thing to get performance out of FSX!!!!! Nothing else matters if you do not get to a high clock. Especially because of the bad coding and the way it uses the 1st core in use. In most cases the 1st core in use is the bottleneck because FSX is rendering too much out of it. So my advise: 1. Turn Hyperthreading off in Bios. 2. Set Affinity mask is 14 in FSX.cfg 3. Buy a decent cooler. (My personal advice: corsair H110 or H80i) 4. Read and learn about over clocking. (unless you already know what you are doing) 5. Get the highest over clock you can reach stably. You can also consult this guide, or one of the many others for even more tweaks: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic34141_post198187.html#198187 I have an i7 2600K at 4.8 with a H80i and a GTX770 and I am maxed out on performance. I am limited by VAS mostly, and not by hardware limitations, which is something you will most likely also run into. I hope this helps a bit.
