FDE is by Alexander Metzger.  'Nuff said?

To the OP - it's funny, I've just settled into the C-47 after my most recent failed romance with tubeliners.  As part of my reorientation, was reading Len Morgan's essay in this lovely out-of-print book about the pleasures of flying the DC-3 on airline routes in the late 40s, as opposed to the pressurized turboprops that took its place.  "This wonder plane has everything a DC-3 pilot used to dream about.  But in a lot of ways, it's not half as much fun to fly."  Hits home.
