Will there ever be a decent Kai Tak?

Hi All,Ok, over the last few days I have tried, and failed, to get this great airport looking like it used to.I have tried a multitude of freeware files, the best of which is circa FS2000, but they all share the same problem, they are huge FPS hogs, even on my system.I also managed to see Flightsofts one running, although it doesnt look to bad, again, its a huge FPS hog.So my question is, do you think anybody would ever create a nice, FPS friendly, version of Kai Tak for FS2004?, is it a viable project?, would there be a big demand?, as it is a "dead" airport. With the scenery technology available to, e.g full GMAX sceneries, I am sure that a detailed and FPS friendly scenery is possible, Flytampa have done it with their airports. What do you all think?CheersDan.

Dan, that isn't "as real as it gets". Kai Tek is closed! Thank goodness. If you had ever flown in or out of there, you'd know what I mean. :)

Hello Dan, Have you tried modifying the textures on all those packages? Like you, the first thing that I do is to reduce texture size and convert to DXT, DXT1 in this case, of course. This always solves that problem.Best regards.Luis

"Dan, that isn't "as real as it gets". "You know what Tom, I hate the bloody tagline :-lol , fortunatly (unfortunatly) I never have flown in/out of there, but I have seen plenty of videos, and can seriously see why.Never the less, would be nice to try my hand at it with some nice scenery. As for "as real as it gets" I guess me flying a Concorde inverted under the QE2 bridge isnt overly realistic either ;).CheersDan.

Luis,I hadnt tried that, but I will give it a try.CheersDan.

There's always FS2000 or FS98 in which Kai Tak would be open for business.

Yeah, thanks for that JW :-rollDan.

Hello All, Yes, Kai Tak is closed in real life, and probably for the better, as it was small, congested, full of parking accidents and a real nightmare to land on, espicially in bad weather. There have been more than one heavy crashes in Hong Kong due to Kai Tak and its configuration, and the huge amount of 'heavies' which landed and took off from there. The new airport is far superior . . . however . . .KT had something about it . . . personality, adventure and of course, danger. To make a greeser at KT you HAD to have your act together as a pilot . . . not to mention all the great videos of 747's landing in a heavy crosswind all bent out of shape. Wonder if KT holds the record for destroying aircraft on landing? I have to admit, I have flown into Kai Tak 4 times in my lifetime, and being a real world pilot all four times I found it breathtaking, exciting and I swore that I WOULD NEVER TAKE THIS FLIGHT AGAIN!Cause it scarred the living crap out of me.In FS, well, to do it right, by the numbers in a heavy crosswind, you have to have your talent package up to snuff . . . and I understand that the 9 Dragons project is going to bring KT back to us sometime this year . .. I can't wait!!!!!So I'll have to take another blood pressure pill . . . LOL, who cares!Best to all and bring on the 9 Dragons.Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac"

"and I understand that the 9 Dragons project is going to bring KT back to us sometime this year . .. I can't wait!!!!!"What is this "9 dragons project" you speak of?Dan.

It's also called "Century of Flight". If they can include a Wright flyer, they could include Kai Tak. And Idyllwild. Boy what I'd give for a nice Idyllwild.:)

Hi Tom,Yeah, I have tried Mr Kwongs FS2000 scenery, and whilst it is pretty good, I still find it a bit of a hog on the FPS side, also, its looking a bit long in the tooth now, heck its 4 odd years old, but beggers can't be choosers I guess.CheersDan.

9 Dragons project could be interesting, wonder if Thomas K will have enough time to be part of the team?
