April 11, 201412 yr I always question why people want to see other people's faces online. Online is the wild west, and the less info you put out there, the better. Online is the wild west precisely because people don't put their name and picture online. The biggest reason people act half decent "offline" is because they don't want to have their face connected to an image of being a jerk. Well, most people anyway. Anonymity supresses that. Anonymity on the internet, in crowd (when single jerk gets lost in the crowd) or in group (where no jerk feels they will be singled out and labeled a jerk). --Peter Fabian

I post on a very active media forum where anonymity is the norm yet online behaviour is excellent because the forum is well moderated. A.net is another place I use which is civil but nicknames are the norm. So it can be done. Using "real names" doesn't really help because you can still pose as a fake identity. It's much more about having accountability, however that is achieved. However having a proper name to refer to users by, real or not, does help keep things more personal, if not always friendly. April 13, 201412 yr Commercial Member We are not a public company with shareholders or whatever where people need to know/see "executives" on a website. The company name and our products are what we want the website to promote, not us as individuals - cluttering it up with personal photos and bios would be sort of tacky I think. April 13, 201412 yr Author Fair enough, Ryan. I suppose if you guys became too recognisable, you'd have people stopping you on the street and in restaurants asking for autographs and screenshotarazzi following you everywhere trying to get a screenshot of you guys for various flight sim magazines, eh? Just the price of fame - you knew it when you signed up with Robert!!! Matthew Bellette
