February 10, 200521 yr I'm sure plenty of threads for the abovementioned aircraft have been posted before but I wanted to share my thoughts nevertheless.I just purchased and installed the RA Spitfire today and I've been flying it non-stop for the last two hours. I cannot believe how perfect this aircraft is!The cockpit looks completely flawless, the framerates remain very high when in VC mode, the aircraft is a joy to fly and the external model could easily be mistaken for a photograph of the real thing! The added features such as the engine failure simulation and the RealView controls have been implemented flawlessly and you really get the feeling that you're in the real aircraft, feeling all of the bumps along the way.Put simply, an amazing achievement from the team at RealAir Simulations! They never cease to astonish me with what is possible nowadays with Flight Simulator and I owe my sincerest gratitute to you.James
February 10, 200521 yr JamesOn behalf of the team, thanks. You didn't mention the included scenery of WW2 era West Malling in Kent. I presume you have tried it and its squadron of AI Spitfires for company? It adds even more to the immersive experience.CheersTimhttp://members.chello.nl/t.westnutt/realair1.gif
February 10, 200521 yr I'm sorry to butt in with a small problem. I love the RE Spit and I too have spent many enjoyable hours flying this beauty.I seem to have a delay factor in my joystick input (CH Products).I have literally hundreds of aircraft in FS, including other RA aircraft and have never experienced this problem before. For example, on finals, if I am coming in with my nose too low, I pull back gently on the stick. Nothing happens for a few seconds, and then, suddenly, the aircraft reacts and pulls up. Flies normally for a few seconds and then does the hesitation thing again.Pretty nerve-racking so close to the ground.Interested to know if anyone else has experienced this. John
February 10, 200521 yr If it's USB then I get this quite often just after I load FS, sometimes occasionally during flight. It is not aircraft specific and is usually cleared by unplugging the USB connection and plugging it in again. I've never actually had this happen with the Spitfire in all the many many hours I flew it during development and testing. I use a Saitek X36/X35 joystick and throttle combo. CheersTimhttp://members.chello.nl/t.westnutt/realair1.gif
February 10, 200521 yr Thanks Tim.It is USB, so I'll try what you suggest.Never had this problem before though. John
February 10, 200521 yr I completely agree. I was amazed to see the slow updating VC gauges finally gone. I hope this VC will be the new quality standard. I absolutely love this aircraft. I also loaded it into FS Economy and it's amazing to see the amount of fuel you burned after a short flight.:D
February 10, 200521 yr Have to agree on this. I bought it the other day and have been chomping at the bit each day to get home and fly it again. How in the world they got those VC gauges to move like that - it's just amazing.Really good work again Realair.__Josh
February 11, 200521 yr Much as I like the atmosphere and quality of the West Malling airfield, every time the airfield comes into view I experience significant stuttering pauses while the textures load. I can actually see the untextured objects (runway, grass and buildings) initially and watch them being textured over a two or three second period during which time the game stutters very badly. This happens even if I take off from the airfield and fly circuits -- every time it comes into view, the game stutters for several seconds. It happens regardless of weather conditions and AI traffic density. It also happens with other a/c, not only with the RealAir Spit. I do not experience stutters with any other scenery or around very busy airports. My system specs are pretty decent: Athlon64 3500+, 2GB PC3200 DDR, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB and in-game performance is extremely smooth apart from the stutters around West Malling mentioned above. Any suggestions on how to reduce the stuttering around this airfield? I have tried setting the scenery to be cached and uncached in the scenery library, with no noticeable effect.
February 11, 200521 yr I suggest that if you don't have one, you acquire a POWERED USB hub. There are 4 slot models that are dirt cheap and at least you could rule out (or confirm) on board power blips as an issue.I have an industrial strength PFC Yolk/Power Quad rig that is not USB and I have never had the issue you described after dozens of hours of flying the FABULOUS machine that is the RE Spit.I have said that before and am quite sure I will say it again.Great work guys!REgards,Jim
February 11, 200521 yr Hi All,I would just like to add my support for this aircraft by real air simulations, it is a pure joy to fly, Fantastic work guys. Please please please, is there any chance you guys could do a Bf109 ?Preferbly a 109-G2 with the black 6 livery which used to fly at duxford, but now sadly on static display at Raf Hendon, shame.Cheerskeep up the good workMike
February 11, 200521 yr I take my hat off to Rob and Sean for this masterpiece which works so well in every way imaginable. This is a simulation which means you can let your imagination run wild.I would like RealAir to create a modern day Spitfire as if they were building this for wealthy owners as a touring aircraft of today.I would like to see a "fun" version with modern avionics and instrumentation one which is dual purpose ie you can fly her as a "fighter or aerobatic mount " but also use her as a serious touring machine with full IFR capability. The purists might tremble with horror at such a thought but old aircraft are reinvented and as I said this is a simulation where your imagination can run wild :-)Peter
February 11, 200521 yr Y'know what I'd like to see? I'd like to see RA do a whole set of warbirds - one selected from the arsenal of each major combatant of the war. :)
February 11, 200521 yr I agree that the Spit reminds me of IL2 which is a huge achievement in FS9.I am still waiting to see what they can do with something bigger and more complex like a twin or business jet rather than single engine aircraft.Peter
