RealAir's Spitfire

I'd say it's neither. Looks to me like a painting or drawing overlaid on an aerial photograph. The aircraft is a bit too low in detail to look like a photo to me compared with the background.

Does Germany still have that law prohibiting anything barring the Swastika from being distributed to German citizens (or them posessing such)?

>I would say it's a real picture and it looks as though it's>very near 'Duxford' in Cambridge UK where they have restored>one for the display circuits.>All the best,It is "Black 6" you are referring too and yes it was on the airshow circuit some years ago, it crash landed in a field near Duxford in 1997. The aircraft was rebuilt but only as a static exhibit. The aircraft is now on static display at the RAF Museum at HendonInfo and photos here http://www.sweptwings.co.uk/me109_gallery.htmI believe there are no 109's on the UK airshow circuit presently. There is however 1 in the USA I believe. There is a very nice diecast model here http://galactic-voyager.com/cgi-bin/mod.cg...=03-50087&c=111CheersTim http://members.chello.nl/t.westnutt/realair1.gif

L and Bill, thanks for the responses. If others are running the scenery without stuttering, that's an encouraging sign as it helps narrow down the problem to something to do with my system or settings.I've tried quite a few things to cure the texture load stuttering including uninstalling the package, defragging my HDDs and reinstalling, moving the airfield into its own separate scenery folder, setting the framerate limiter to 20, 24 (my usual setting), 30 and unlimited, turning render to texture on (my usual setting) and off, setting the TERRAIN_DEFAULT/EXTENDED_RADIUS and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS parameters to various values, using different screen resolutions and colour depths (1280x960x32 is my default), with little or no effect. Interestingly, the stuttering is decreased by about 25-33% if I set the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT parameter to 40 (my usual is 120), which may provide a clue.Another clue may be that I also experience texure load pauses when changing views in the Spitfire. If I haven't used an external view for some time, when I change to an external view I see the untextured model for about 1/2 a second while the textures load. Similarly, when I change back to the virtual cockpit view, I see the untextured 3D cockpit model for about 1/2 a second before the textures are applied. In both cases, the game stutters for about a second while the textures load. These issues when changing views only occur with the Spitfire. I have not modified the textures that came with the package in any way.Any ideas? The stuttering isn't a showstopper by any means but it is a minor annoyance.

what about all Hispano Buchons used in the Battle of Britain film to represent the 109s, aren't there any of them left, after all they are basically 109s with merlin engines in them, also there used to be a 108 in private hands, i remeber seeing it northamptonshire a few years ago.

<...I will never forget making a blazing SEVEN MILES PER HOUR over the ground in one of his 150s...>:-lol Great story, Jim. Up until now I always thought Chicago was called the windy city because of the political controversies that seem to go on there:7 Yes, I read the book "Cessna, a Master's Expression" by Edward H. Phillips and learned many things I had not known before. He accomplished so many things during the early history of aeronautics in this country. A great read. All the best

Hi Jeroen,AFAIK it's still illegal to show the Swastika here in Germany. Plastic model kits sold here contain modified decal sets without the 'Hakenkreuz', and personally I think this is a good thing. Of course there is a grey area concerning things like historical photographs, I don't know what the regulations are in this area.VOlker :]

I've always considered it a bad thing. You're trying to cover up history after all. It's not the Swastika which is evil, it's a specific use for it in specific context.I'd say that even having a NSDAP flag shouldn't be illegal, it's the way you use it. So if you have it on display in a private museum showing the history of the 3rd Reich in a historically correct way (so not just the good things it brought like total employment and an increase in the standard of living in the 1930s but also the bad points like starting a war and trying to exterminate entire groups of people) that shouldn't be illegal but waving it on a really bad dude's birthday should be.As to historical photographs, I believe those are allowed under specific conditions (like in history books). My father is a collector of original German books from the period and he can't (legally) buy most of them in Germany because they're all banned (there's of course no censors in a free country, but books are banned anyway). Of course under the counter many second hand bookstores have a small but exquisite collection for the collector which comes out once they know you're no police informer or neo ######.Germany ever since WW2 has been oversensitive to the outward display of ###### paraphernalia while doing little to show people the true nature of the beast. There's hardly any problems with fascists elsewhere where such displays are allowed despite what the press says, they'll call anyone who's not leftist enough a fascist.Even the Front Nationale in France (who's been branded a fascist by just about the entire world) has never called for anything approaching a fascist agenda, instead wanting little more than to restrict immigration and get rid of illegal aliens. They're about as rightwing as they come without being banned in Europe (what about freedom of speech?).

Hi There,The Spitfire will give a little lag AT FIRST when changing views, but once established, on my system at least, subsequent view changes are instant. West Malling will add a little more delay, especially with AI aircraft, since the whole package is now labour intensive in loading such detail in one go.However we have reports from folks with really quite modest systems that after the initial loadings, everything is silky smooth.I feel sure there is one weak link in your chain, whether it is a driver, hardware or RAM maybe, and you should be getting a lot better than you are describing. As with many of these issues, the countless variations in drivers, setup and systems conspire to make it impossible to come up with an obvious answer.Kind Regards,Rob Young www.realairsimulations.com

Hi Rob, thanks for responding. Yes, I would expect pauses when the textures are first loaded, as you say, and then for them to be cached until needed again. The behaviour I'm seeing is consistent with the textures not being cached so that they have to be reloaded every time they're needed.I'm not sure what could be causing that though, which has me scratching my head.Any ideas?

I'm experiencing the exact same problems you describe! Here are my specs:OS: Windows XP SP2Northwood P4 3Ghz HT @ 3.0GHzIntel mobo with D865PERL chipset1GB Geil DDR 400 DDR RAM (2x512MB)Sapphire X800XT vid card with Cat 5.1 driversSB Audigy 2 soundcard1 WD 800J 80GB HDD with 8MB cacheNetgear 10/100 Mbit Ethernet cardIf you find any of these match yours, there may be something about the component or drivers that aren't exactly compatible with the scenery. If a solution to the problem is found it should probably be posted as a separate thread.Cheers,James

Hi James,It doesn't look like we share any of the same components. Here's someone else experiencing the same problem: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchThat poster noticed the same thing I did - changing the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT parameter in FS9.cfg reduces the texture load stuttering but does not solve it completely. One thing I did notice is that all of us are running ATI cards: you have an X800XT with Cat 5.1, Waltm has a Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB and I have a 9800 Pro 128MB with Cat 4.10. I'm not sure that this is all that meaningful though as I suspect that around 50% of gamers have ATI cards in their systems. Would need to see more data points to know if ATI is a factor here.

Same thing happens on my rig and I've got a 128meg Geforce4Ti4200 so it isn't limited to ATI. Almost every time I switch views, when I go back to the VC the textures take about 2-3 seconds to fully load. However, this isn't far out of line with what I've come to expect from many of the "heavier" VCs (my system is only a P4-1.8) and with there not being a 2D panel there's not much need for switching views anyway except to snap the occasional exterior screenshot so it isn't a huge issue for me...

Interesting. For what it's worth, I reduced the resolution of the RAF West Malling building textures by 50% (using DXTBMP and Paint Shop Pro) and the texture load stutters no longer happen. There is some loss of detail in the textures but it's only noticeable up close when taxiing near the buildings. That's a good enough workaround for me.
