February 11, 200521 yr >I am still waiting to see what they can do with something>bigger and more complex like a twin or business jet rather>than single engine aircraft.>>PeterMe too. Nothing wrong with aerobatics, but now I would love to see their unique technology in a cross country type of plane, perhaps combined with RealityXP avionics.-
February 11, 200521 yr Eaglesoft have more or less cornered the market in small twin jets, and since I do their flight models anyway, we have no desire to tread on their toes commercially. There is a huge range of airliners, corporate jets and twins available now, both freeware and payware. We tend to go for aircraft we know we can do well, and produce efficiently with an essentially small team. But we are most of all interested in delivering a stimulating flying experience and though we constantly think about different potential projects, (we get hundreds of requests), in the end we go for what we feel comfortable doing.Rob Young www.realairsimulations.com Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
February 11, 200521 yr You know why I think this is a good idea? Flying historical aircraft adds so much to the understanding of the job of WW2 pilots. I've read a whole lot of books about wars, including WW2 and Vietnam and there are always parts in these books about pilots and their aircraft. You can consume book after book, but only after flying something like the real air spitfire do you begin to understand what the aircraft was really like. That's why I feel that FS products like these should no longer be brought solely to the attention of FS players, but might very well be of interest to people interested in previous wars. First you had books, then you had movies and now you can truely "feel" the aircraft.
February 11, 200521 yr >Much as I like the atmosphere and quality of the West Malling>airfield, every time the airfield comes into view I experience>significant stuttering pauses while the textures load. I can>actually see the untextured objects (runway, grass and>buildings) initially and watch them being textured over a two>or three second period during which time the game stutters>very badly. This happens even if I take off from the airfield>and fly circuits -- every time it comes into view, the game>stutters for several seconds. It happens regardless of>weather conditions and AI traffic density. It also happens>with other a/c, not only with the RealAir Spit. I do not>experience stutters with any other scenery or around very busy>airports. >This is interesting, because on my "ancient" Athlon 1900XP/GeforceTi500, the West Malling field is very frame rate friendly. Most of the time, my fps are in the upper 30's to mid 40's, and the slowest is mid 20's for only a second or to. Texturing isn't even a problem in this area.I run the simulation with "water effects" OFF, auto-gen at mid range & terrain levels on the upper end. As to the Spitfire itself, it's one of the more fps friendly airplanes on my list.L.Adamson
February 11, 200521 yr Mike: I second your call for a Gustav. As actor Wilfrid Brimley says, "It's the right thing to do".The most produced fighter of World War II deserves it's place in FS. And I cannot envision anyone other than RealAir to do it.Black Six would be a great one. Here is another to consider: http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/air_power/ap14.htmI'm looking forward to the announcement for their next project. Whatever it may be, I am sure no one will be disappointed. "... speed ... is the only reason for flying." - Clyde V. Cessna
February 11, 200521 yr OK Rob how about a RealAir De Havilland Mosquito:DI would love to own a really good FS version of this classic WWII fighter/bomber/reconnaisance aircraft. For now I can recommend the Wings Of Power collection for fans of good quality WWII payware. Superb value for money (
February 11, 200521 yr I'm sorry to hear West Malling is giving you trouble. I went to great lengths to try and pack as much detail in as possible without degrading performance. The stuttering when the textures load leads me to suspect the weak link in your chain might be the video card. Oddly enough, the system I developed the scenery on is "weaker" than yours by a good bit, and my video card was a Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb at the time. I didn't have the stuttering you're mentioning. However, we all know by now that every system is like a snowflake (and some are flakier than others ;-)) so me saying it worked fine on mine does you no good whatsoever. If the textures are loading slowly, I'd suggest a full defrag of your hard drive first. You may already have done that, but I thought I'd throw it in there just in case. After that, I'm not sure what to suggest. Let me noodle on it for a bit and maybe I'll come up with something else.thanks,
February 11, 200521 yr Hi,Another reason i would like to see RAS do a Bf109-Gustav, is to hear the sounds of that Daimler-Benz engine roaring away. The sounds in the RAS spit are just fantastic. We have enough 737's, 747's, cessna's etc etc, why is the 109 forgotten in the flight sim world. It would be great to have it in fs9.http://www.bf109.com/gallery/favourites/gall02favemed.jpgcheersMike
February 11, 200521 yr I never thought I'd asked something like this just a few years ago, but: is that pic a photo, or is it taken from a flight simulator? I can't figure out...:( "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
February 11, 200521 yr Roger that...and not not butt into a Real Air thread by mentioning another vendor (but I know the RA guys won't mind) if you are a Warbird fan you really should check out the Wings of Power set.REALLY good machines!Best,Jim
February 11, 200521 yr <<"Speed...is the only reason for flying"... Clyde V. Cessna>>Of course, he was largely correct but I will never forget making a blazing SEVEN MILES PER HOUR over the ground in one of his 150s during my primary flight training when a clear air gust front came slamming into the chicago area. With the street traffic below passing me at such high relative speeds, I actually felt like I was flying backwards!!That sort of weirded me out actually. But no worries. I soon upgraded to a 152 ! My grizzled old ex P51 jock instructor asked me what I would do if the only airport in range of my fuel was perpendicular to the wind direction and I was over rough terrain. "Pray." was my answer."Nope" he said. "Declare an emergency and land crosswise to the runway. At 7 mph you could do that easily on a 50ft. wide runway." Jim:)
February 12, 200521 yr I would say it's a real picture and it looks as though it's very near 'Duxford' in Cambridge UK where they have restored one for the display circuits. All the best,Dave.'Three greens and soft landings' Dave Taylor
February 12, 200521 yr >>I would like RealAir to create a modern day Spitfire as if>they were building this for wealthy owners as a touring>aircraft of today. >PeterThat will be easy enough when RA releases the paint kit. I hope it'll come soon :-) . Only thing is as there's no trainer Spi', I can't bring the dearest one with me ! As for modern avionics, no thank you, where would be the fun ? RA Spit' is already one the best addons EVER
February 12, 200521 yr >I would say it's a real picture and it looks as though it's>very near 'Duxford' in Cambridge UK where they have restored>one for the display circuits.>Gee, I might as well have said it was a 3d model pasted on a real photo...I think in a few years we won't be able to tell the difference at all...:) "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
