February 10, 200521 yr I know the large jets get all the buzz in the forums, but I wanted to bring attention to this little gem--the Rans S7 Coyote. What I like the most is the VC--it's one of the most flyable VC's I've seen in a light GA aircraft, with outstanding visibility. Here's a link to this great little aircraft (which is also backward compatible with FS2002):http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...04ac&DLID=61033-John
February 10, 200521 yr Thanks for the link, John - can't wait to try her out! Too bad GA is so overshadowed by heavy metal. So much to see low and slow...Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
February 10, 200521 yr Commercial Member It looks a real jem. I'm downloading while I type!I love 'big iron' but every big jet pilot should return to the small GA periodically to hone basic navigation skills, and look around of course!Graeme
February 10, 200521 yr I did make one mistake in my post--it's the S7 Courier, not Coyote which is the S6. Regardless what it's called, that VC view is just outstanding and I'm sure VC junkies who like to hand fly their aircraft will love this one.-John
February 11, 200521 yr JohnThanks for the lead. I have downloaded the aircraft and would like to thank the author for such a great little plane. The VC is really good and makes an excellent spotter plane.Apart from that the dynamics are impressive for a freeware author and the aircraft works very well.A definate must have :-)My only gripe is I do not like the prop disc which is very "blocky and dotted".It takes away from the views and somehow doesnt add anything to what is a superb aircraft. How can I get rid of the prop disc or replace it with something more subtle ?Peter
February 11, 200521 yr Yeah, I'd like to do the same. The spinning prop effect is a bit much...otherwise its a great little plane. :)
February 11, 200521 yr hmmm... 100-horsepower rotax... hmmm... my lawnmower could use an overhaul...:-)
February 11, 200521 yr i've done this for a quite a few planes, but it's not always easy to find the right replacement due to different bitmap formats. find the prop bitmap (pray it's a standalone file), zap it, then keep dropping other planes' props in the texture folder renaming the files to what the original prop file was called. expect all kinds of artifacts and irrgularities, but sooner or later something will work. good luck
February 12, 200521 yr Yes, this is a great little plane but I agree with the comments about the prop disk. Is there a way to get rid of it entirely rather than trying to change it?One other thing that I noticed about this plane is that when using the VC I get better frame rate and smoother visuals when I zoom out to .75 from 1.0. This seems backwards but there is a definite change. I wonder if it is because the prop disk takes up less of the screen at .75 zoom level.Joe
February 12, 200521 yr It is no surprise that Steven Grant produces yet another little gem. Thank you Steven. :-)To make the prop disk less visible, open the prop.bmp in an appropriate program like DXTbmp, and edit the alpha channel from white to about a 18,18,18 RBG value, near black. This will leave a hint of the prop and eliminate the more visible elements.Save the edited bmp as DXT3 and go fly.
February 13, 200521 yr Well, I Googled for DXTbmp and installed it but for those not experienced in graphics editing, it is not at all intuitive to use.Maybe Steven would take the time to post a fix since most of us commenting so far feel that the prop is far too visible.Nice little ship though.Regards,Jim
February 15, 200521 yr Author As I am not familiar with texture files I didn't succeed to make the S7 prop disk less dark. However I got rid of the spinning disk in a simple way :-make a copy of C172_prop.bmp (from C172texture)-start DXTBmp.exe (freeware prgm v 4.00.82) and open the copied file as 'extended bitmap' type- use menu 'save' (not 'save as...' ) rename file 'prop.bmp' and select DXT1 file type-after renaming the original S7 prop.bmp file (in both s7 texture folders:in order to keep it as a backup) paste the new prop.bmp file in both texture folders.Result: the prop is still there when the motor is off but after the motor is started the spinning prop is invisible...Hope someone comes up with a better solution...The S7 is a marvellous addon, thanks alot Steven.Franshu
