April 22, 201412 yr Hello, first time posting here. I've been enjoying my FSX with addons like PMDG NGX, ASN, Rex4 textures, and many other pay ware airports, FTX Europe, etc. Although I had no big problems in DX9, I begun to have OOM in addon heavy airports at night. To make the long story short, I'm considering to try DX10 having read many benefits on many websites and YouTube. I've tried DX10 preview by checking its box in FSX setting menu but FR was clearly lower than when I was in DX9. Of course I have not purchased the infamous Fixer nor made any adjustments via nVidia Inspector. In general, can I expect a different degree of performance improvement if/when I use the fixer with associated nVidia Inspector assignment or will that remain closer to the situation I experienced by only clicking the in-FSX DX10 preview? I'm hoping that FSX will perform much better with the Fixer versus just checking the in-FSX DX10 preview. Any inputs will help me make my decision to try DX10 by buying the Fixer. April 22, 201412 yr Author Steve, Thank you for such a quick reaction. May I ask a few more questions? My main concern with trying DX10 is not the money, I am willing to invest the cost of buying your fixer regardless of its results on my PC. The biggest concern is if I feel that DX10 performs worse than DX9 performance wise or visual wise, will it be easy to go back to DX9? I would like to avoid this if returning can cause a lot of problems. While I have some level of confidence in setting up DX10 per instructions on various web sites or on YouTube (making changes via nVidia inspector and changing a few entries in CFG file), my knowledge of CFG files is basic. Thanks. Kay Nemoto Prepar3D version 3Win7-64 bit
April 23, 201412 yr DX10 Fixer has a one click DX9/DX10 switch feature. I have only just purchased the program, and I am still learning all the options. You can set profiles for different program's and lots of other stuff. I have no regrets with DX10. Overall FSX performance and visuals are great. Bob Sent from my tablet thingy!
April 25, 201412 yr While I have some level of confidence in setting up DX10 per instructions on various web sites or on YouTube (making changes via nVidia inspector and changing a few entries in CFG file), my knowledge of CFG files is basic.I've done the "DX10 dance" quite thoroughly now - and tried every known tweak known to mankind  ... my conclusions are: 1) I noticed a very definite improvement in overall *quality* and stability - meaning I could move most of my FSX settings one notch higher than before, for roughly the same FPS. 2) Having followed almost every thread going, I've come to the conclusion that all you need is Steve's manual and PaulJ's "How to" guide. All the wisdom is combined in those two documents - and the procedures are well explained - step by step. Go through those systematically and you won't go far wrong. 3) As far as switching backwards and forwards, I'd suggest keeping two sets of files: a DX9 fsx.cfg and a DX10 fsx.cfg. There are some modifications to fsx.cfg that are specific to DX10 (and vice-versa). Do a similar thing with nVidia Inspector: export two variations of profile (DX9 and DX10). That way you can keep all the tweaks separate and can switch more easily. I think a lot of performance gain attributed to DX10+Fixer is that the process (if done properly) sorts out your fsx.cfg and NVI profile - both of which could have had redundant or inefficient settings. I found the whole sim was definitely *smoother* and my framerates did seem better. One final thing - as you say you only have "basic" fsx.cfg knowledge - if you do any tweaking at all, don't tweak to many settings at once or you won't know which setting was the crucial one. Do it one step at a time, restarting FSX each time. Adam.
April 26, 201412 yr Author Thank you for your advice. I now purchased the fixer and followed several YouTube videos in setting up DX10. I test flew using default Baron and it looks fine so far. I will now try my usual PMDG NGX today. Kay Nemoto Prepar3D version 3Win7-64 bit
