April 30, 201412 yr I am having some difficulties with RC4 and have a few questions. In FSX I am on the Apron at Oban in Scotland and on starting RC4 I get the popup window stating "RC4 Ready". I then get the following items: 2....WX, and 4. CLS by FSS. I am using MCE, which is started when RC4 is ready. However, when I use the speak button and request "Clearance, Skyways 373 request clearance to Edinburgh" I get no response from RC4. I then try by pressing key 4, but still nothing. Then for some unknown reason the RC4 window dissapears and I can't seem to get it back, and it would appear that RC4 has frozen. I am also using GSX, and am not sure if this is interfering somehow, although I have seen videos with RC4, MCE and GSX all working together. How should one request clearance from FSS. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to stop the RC4 window disappearing, or a way of getting it back? Is there anything specifically that needs to be set for RC4 to work alongside GSX without conflict?
April 30, 201412 yr I think there is a setting in MCE that prevents a conflict with RC. Ask on the MCE forum. Here's one relative topic I picked up on a search that shows MCE settings to use with RC4: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/422772-rcv4-in-a-remote-computer/?hl=mce+and+rc4#entry2824603 and an extracted quote: " Set these in mce.ini under C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Multi Crew Experience\mce.ini [ATC] Mode=RC4 UseRadarContact=1 IgnoreRC4Registry=1" Where RC is on a networked client read that full thread. Does it work alone with MCE and FSX? How about just RC and GSX with FSX. Add this to your general section of fsuipc.ini: AdvDisplayHotKey=88,10 is a ctrl-x toggle that will hide and show the fsuipc window RC uses. While it still will pop-up as soon as RC needs the menu or issues something, may be can restore the RC window. Also, RC may be waiting for an acknowledgement.
April 30, 201412 yr Author Thanks Ronzie. I do have those settings in my MCE.INI file. It may also be related to a clash between RC4 and GSX keystrokes. I'll do some more investigations as you suggest. Stuart
April 30, 201412 yr Stuart, have you tried "clearance delivery, etc" instead of only using "clearance" By saying " show atc" rc4 window will show up again. For me, i only change the "ignorerc4 registry=0 to 1(though it's on the same pc) Regards John John Cramer
May 1, 201412 yr Author quote name='ronzie' timestamp='1398889037' post='2979852'] Does it work alone with MCE and FSX? How about just RC and GSX with FSX. Ronzie, I have just done a test with RC4 and GSX alone, having changed keyboard conflicts in RC4 keyboard mapping. I changed the numerics to Ctrl-1,Ctrl-2,Ctrl-3 etc. in RC4. I also added your suggested Ctrl-x parameters for AdvDispaly in fsuipc.ini. I am still not getting any response from RC4. It recognises the keypress as the AdvDisplay window flickers, but I neither hear the pilot nor get any response from FSS re either weather or clearance. I then closed RC4 and changed FSX location from Oban to Edinburgh, where normal ATC is available, but the same thing occurs e.g. no response! RC4 was working OK on my last flight with RC4 & MCE from Edinburgh to Oban. I have since installed GSX, and Shade, although I don't believe the latter would cause any issue. Short of reinstalling RC4 and applying for a new key, is there any other suggestions either yourself or John Dekker, if he is reading this, can make to get RC4 working again. Oh, I also installed the revised Meatwater controller voices for RC4, but I can't recall if that was before or after my last flight. Another reason for not wanting to completely reinstall! Cheers, Stuart Hyett
May 1, 201412 yr Author Just been looking through the forum to see if I could find similar problems reported, when I spotted the following embedded in a similar post: "Guys, I cannot believe it. I run into a buddy who plays a lot of games. He has the same Soundblaster I have. He told me he couldn't get sounds reliably with "surround sound" selected......... So I call up the SB control and deselect surround sound and select "stereo A/B" and VOILA, I have the ATC voices." I am using a Sades SA-902 7.1 Surround Sound Cobra USB Gaming Heaset Headphones with Mic and I seem to remember that it is set to 8 Surround sound. Perhaps that could be the problem if RC4 doesn't like surround sound settings in some sound cards. What do you think? I am not at home at the moment but will try tomorrow if no other ideas. Cheers, Stuart
May 1, 201412 yr Run just RC and FSX to test your sound card settings. To test RC by it self just click a name in one of the pilot voices tab.
May 1, 201412 yr Author Run just RC and FSX to test your sound card settings. To test RC by it self just click a name in one of the pilot voices tab.To run RC4 and just FSX, I think I would need to uninstall GSX, which I don't really want to do. Besides I know that RC4, FSX GSX, and MCE run ok together, as proven by all the David Herky videos on YouTube. I shall look at the headphone sound settings as mentioned in my last post, and check out the pilot/controller voices in RC4 itself. Thanks again for your continued support. Regards, Stuart
May 2, 201412 yr Author Hi Ronzie, OK, I have tested the following: 1. Just RC4 running - tested pilot and controller voices and can hear voices fine. 2. Changed sound settings to stereo, rather than surround, and ran FSX, GSX and RC4. Still no sound from RC4. Everything else is fine. 3. Uninstalled GSX and started FSX and RC4 on their own. Still no sound from RC4, although pilot and controller voices can still be heard when tested using the Voices tab in RC. Short of reinstalling RC4 is there anything else that you can suggest? Regards, Stuart Hyett
May 2, 201412 yr Author Ron, Just another thought. Would recompiling the airport database with 'makerunways' help. Not sure if this would effect anything, since I don't even hear the pilot request, but just wondered not knowing the internal workings of RC4? What DLLs is RC4 dependant on for the voice sound, and could any other installed programme perhaps have overwritten something? Cheers, Stuart
May 2, 201412 yr RC does not run through the FSX mixer. It plays through your wav slider on your Win mixer. Make sure the option in RC IFR training is disabled. That has more to do with the in flight window display. AI chatter and Interact with AI should be checked. Are you letting RC tune the coms? It uses COM1 only for checking the frequency. RC has its own com frequency database. Do you see the COM1 frequency change? It should match the frequency in the controller tab of RC preflight for ground, tower, etc. Use auto-tune only for now. What version of DX is running? Should be running with 9 or 10. I take it the in-flight window does not disappear any more. You are using an FSX default aircraft for testing, right? Does FSX ATC play say on a weather request? Load a flight into FSX at a default tower controlled airport and load RC. Click the debug option to make a log. Load a flight plan. Start RC. Be sure all your avionics is on. In RC get weather. Does it play? If not send a log in to jd following the pinned topic to see if he can spot anything. Your RC version is 4.3845, correct? If you alt-tab do any hidden error windows show up? Regarding apps overwriting anything some may overwrite a .dll or add one. Usually it is a keystroke capture that may additionally have been installed.
May 2, 201412 yr Author RC does not run through the FSX mixer. It plays through your wav slider on your Win mixer. STUART: I have checked the window mixer when RC4 is running and the volume is fine. Make sure the option in RC IFR training is disabled. That has more to do with the in flight window display. AI chatter and Interact with AI should be checked. STUART: IFR training is disabled, and the AI boxes checked. Are you letting RC tune the coms? It uses COM1 only for checking the frequency. RC has its own com frequency database. Do you see the COM1 frequency change? It should match the frequency in the controller tab of RC preflight for ground, tower, etc. Use auto-tune only for now. STUART: As mentioned before, at Oban, weather and clearance is by FSS, so there are no frequencies to tune. In fact Avionics in the plane is off when trying to contact FSS for either weather or clearance - is this a factor? What version of DX is running? Should be running with 9 or 10. STUART: I will need to check. Is there a DX11? If not then I am definitely running DX 9 or 10. I take it the in-flight window does not disappear any more. STUART: No. Having defined Ctrl-X for AdvDisplay in fsuipc and can call it back if it does. You are using an FSX default aircraft for testing, right? STUART: No. I have been using Aerosoft DHC6 (not Extended version). This is my normal preferred aircraft with which RC4 was previously working fine. Does FSX ATC play say on a weather request? STUART: Do you mean through RC4? There is no frequency quoted for weather at Oban, only to request through FSS. I have FSX ATC turned off. I can test this tomorrow. STUART: I believe so. If you alt-tab do any hidden error windows show up? STUART: no errors reported. Regarding apps overwriting anything some may overwrite a .dll or add one. Usually it is a keystroke capture that may additionally have been installed. STUART: One thing you mention above. "Be sure all avionics are on". Should this also be the case when trying to come with FSS through RC4? Maybe that is where my problem lies, as I seem to have a problem with the Avionics and radios being live/on. Thanks again Ron for you tolerance, I sure I am Just missing something obvious. Stuart
May 3, 201412 yr Author Ron, Eureka!!!! I have resolved my RC4 sound problems. It seems that a recent patch that I had applied to the DHC6 aircraft had corrupted something, and even though the Avionics switch was on, it wasn't being recognised. After uninstalling the aircraft and reinstalling it, all is functioning normally again. Thanks again for all your help and tolerance. Cheers, Stuart
May 3, 201412 yr Glad it is resolved. The DHC-6 is a very popular aircraft with its flexible purposes (passenger/cargo/mixed) used not only in bush areas but also Inter-Island areas in the Carribean including very short hops. Still a place for RC, though, in many routes. Let me know if you can get in and out smartly at SABA (ICAO: TNCS). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saba http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juancho_E._Yrausquin_Airport Less than 1,000 feet of the 1,300 feet is marked usable. It is not in RC's database at least for FS9 possibly because of the short runway. If it is in FSX then you can set a parameter for runway minimum length if running makerys.exe directly. (See the makerwys read me.) In that case use the network procedure in RC where you run makerwys.exe first (you'll have to use the Win command line to get that parameter running) and then run the RC scenery rebuild answering yes to the if on a network so it will just grab the files it needs and process them. It is a very short flight flown from TNCM visually which is towered and its approach is handled by TNCM for separation in the area only. RC would treat this an an uncontrolled airport if it works at all for this very short leg. Real world the runway is marked closed because it requires a special permit to be granted to the airline, in this case Win Air. The airline only lets Captains fly in and out and they must maintain currency. Good exercise for you to develop you STOL skills.
May 3, 201412 yr Author Thanks Ron. Yes Saba is a challenging airport and I think flown almost exclusively by the DH6. However I am flying currently for the FlyUK VA, and flying the Highland Connection routes at the moment, which gives a great variety of destinations for the Twitter flying over great Sottish scenery. Thanks again for all your advice, which helped me isolate the problem. Cheers, Stuart
