PMDG 777?

Featured Replies

Captains,

I think it is  a well known fact that the PMDG 777, is on most systems by far a better perfomer than the NGX. I personally have been flying the 737NGX since the date that PMDG  had released it and have had good perfomance with it. My system you will know is by and far one of the slowest systems anyone will dare have to run such complex simulations, but well i have been running it and as a person who is far less worried about touching the 30 fps mark, have been happy...thus far. Before i go on to say anything else i just want everyone to know that my laptop is bad, as you can see my laptop specs. you will know what i am talking about.I also know flight simming is an expensive, if not one of the most expensive hobbies if you try to reach above-par-perfomance. Also let me me make it very clear that i do not intend to get a new PC, or a new laptop, why? because i buy flight gear by selling my paintings and i cannot buy expensive gear. That being said i am still going to ask this question.. will i be able to run the PMDG 777, before you jump at me i do not intend to have the sliders maxed out, infact i am quite happy with it being low, but before i want to commit to buy such an addon i want to be sure will i be able to get a mediocre perfomance out of this bird, say around 10-15 fps?

let me list the addons i have:

Active sky 2012

FTX Global..

and a few airports...

i have tweaked my fsx quite a bit, and even though i have such a bad machine i get pretty decent frames, so i am hoping i will be able to fly the 777 even with such a bad laptop.

any suggestions will be appreciated, any other ideas you might have will also be appreciated.

Thank you all very much,

777cap.

On the webpage they list the "minimum" requirements for running the 777:

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum

OS: Windows 7 64-bit (older OSes such as Windows XP, 32-bit OSes, and Windows 8 may work, but we cannot guarantee compatibility or support)
Processor: Core 2 Duo or greater
RAM: 4GB
Video Card: 1GB DirectX 9 compatible Nvidia or ATI card. Onboard motherboard or CPU video is not supported. Some of the newer Intel designs may work but we cannot guarantee compatibility.
Monitor: Widescreen 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio highly recommended

Recommended

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i5/i7 Sandy Bridge/IvyBridge/Haswell series
RAM: 8GB+
Video Card: 2GB+ latest generation Nvidia. (example: GeForce GTX 760, 770, 780)
Monitor: Widescreen with 16:10 aspect ratio

PMDG *highly* recommends that you choose a 64-bit operating system to avoid problems with FSX running out of memory due to a 32-bit environment.

Seems like you're short on RAM. You'll probably be getting OOMs all the time.

If I might add, the thread title could have been a little bit more descriptive.

Hello Mahesh,  You have painted a very good picture of the pros and cons of your computer and you are aware of its limitations.  There are people in the Forum who can advise you what improvements you require but the bottom line is, on your admission, that you do not have the necessary finances to upgrade.  Bearing this in mind, you will have to make do with the status quo. I cannot say any more.

Richard Welsh

Just want to add that on most laptops it is easy and not very expensive to upgrade memory.  But you need to check whether yours is upgradeable (and of course be careful to get the correct chip).

Captains,

I really do appreciate the replies, thus far to those who feel the thread title was not descriptive enough please do forgive me, maybe i should change it..any ideas?

Alpha Floor: Thank you, yes you are right, i must get more RAM, infact i was planning too but i think i will only be able to upgrade it upto 4gb, though i run windows 7(64bit) not very sure of my laptops maximum capacity, must check before i make an purchase.

I                am happy with the suggestions i have got so far, as for a little more enumeration on OOM's so far i have not experienced it so far, except that i have quite often got not responding messages, which most of the times goes after leaving the sim for a while. I have made few more adjustments to get a little more perfomance here and there.I hope i get a few more suggestions.

Cpt_morgan: don't i wish that were true

Thank you all very much,
