May 25, 201412 yr Author Ray, Yes I have thanks, but I haven't had a chance to try his various suggestions yet. Though I don't think he had time to read my detailed explanation fully as he said "You got on the runway but you never lined up. You were always at a heading of 39"! Well I clearly did line up (on Rwy20) and took off normally following the AI which went ahead of me. But I will report back here if I find I was in error in some other way or jd indicates a way around the situation. Thanks Nigel
May 25, 201412 yr Moderator Thanks for that Nigel. Pity it didn't clear things up for you. Maybe try it at another airport and see what happens there. Ray (Cheshire, England). May 25, 201412 yr Author I have flown, with RCv4, through many airports in the last few months (doing my RTW tour) and at the vast majority everything works fine. But it's the odd ones out (2 so far), that stand out. Nigel
May 25, 201412 yr Moderator Nigel, Please give me the runway and ICAO of an airport that gives you this problem. Ray (Cheshire, England). May 25, 201412 yr Author The airfield SBGW I landed at and for 2 attempts to get out I was given 02 and on the third I was given 20. But for neither runways was I given take off clearance (after being told to line up and hold/wait) As I told jd, on the third attempt (Rwy20) I waited a couple of minutes and then took-off anyway. About 30 seconds after take off, instead of being chided by the controller for taking off without clearance (as I fully expected to be), I was complained at for not taking up the heading I was given (which of course I hadn’t actually been given!). Nigel

May 25, 201412 yr Author Enjoy. I was pleased to find that RCv4 controllers often use the real area and airport names worldwide. If they had the local accents that would be even better! But I believe oftentimes ATC services are provided by international companies (in my day IAL was one). So likely as not they would be English speaking with maybe American accents. So it's still very believable. Nigel P.S. I hope you like the scenery down there. I see we both have FTX Global - tho' I recently added Vector.
May 26, 201412 yr Hi guys a very interesting topic that I as a newbie to RC would like to participate in FYI I fly the PMDG 777. On being told by ground to wait at the end of a taxiway behind an AI aircraft ATC then clears a GA AI aircraft to land on the same runaway that I and the existing heavy AI aircraft in front of me want to take off on (active) and to ruin my day, then tells them to turn on the taxiway we both are on. Is this a known problem ? I understand how to turn on the co-pilot, but how do you turn him off again many thanks Patrick Horan aka Patrico
May 26, 201412 yr Enjoy. I was pleased to find that RCv4 controllers often use the real area and airport names worldwide. If they had the local accents that would be even better! RG> RC has quite a few local accented voices. Check out the pilot, co-pilot, controller, and chatter tabs of the RC Voices tabs. But I believe oftentimes ATC services are provided by international companies (in my day IAL was one). So likely as not they would be English speaking with maybe American accents. So it's still very believable. RG> The official language for IATA/ICAO members requires English. (Real world in a few areas a country that deviates from English ATC must provide an interpreter in the cockpit.) Nigel P.S. I hope you like the scenery down there. I see we both have FTX Global - tho' I recently added Vector.
May 26, 201412 yr Another cause of lining up errors and even cleared to the runway is where the priority afd type file (afcad, AFX, ADE) does not match the visual scenery. The file that has priority should be in the airport scenery folder as that has been made for it. If another afd type file has been downloaded that has been given priority it may not match. RC via makerwys pulls the runway data from the scenery afd type file that has priority. There are a couple of ways to check this: In your FS folder open up a large file in Wordpad called runways.txt. This is a log of the operations of makerwys. Search for Airport ICAO replacing ICAO with the airport ICAO code of interest. The default airports should listed first. Add-on scenery will have two entries, not necessarily adjacent, of a deletion section followed by the section for runways and other data. The last occurrence of a delete followed of the runway data sections has priority and is the data sent to RC. A freeware utility for FSX, P3D, and FS9 is Simple Airport Scanner: http://www.scruffyduck.org/simple-airport-scanner/4584282795 The author is the developer of ADE. Be sure to read the tutorial. In this one, default airports are excluded by default so only add-on material is listed. After all of your scenery is scanned you can search the list by ICAO code. Be sure to read the notes on scenery priority. The scanning process does take some time. Some add-on scenery replaces the FS magnetic deviation file with updates. This can lead to incorrect instrument magnetic headings (compass) for your scenery in place. For FS9 this file magdec.bgl is located in FS9/Scenery/Base/scenery and properties I have are Monday, March 03, 2003, 21:48:23 PM. I have the FS9.1 patch installed.
May 26, 201412 yr Moderator Hi Nigel, Just landed in Rio after a short flight from SBGW. Instructed to taxi to Rwy 20 and as I approached it I was given clearance to line up and wait. As soon as my aircraft was on the runway heading I was given take-off clearance. I can't think what is stopping RC from doing the same for you. This airfield is in the middle of nowhere so an excess of Ai isn't an issue. You could switch to an external view to make sure the aircraft is lined up but that's clutching at straws. What suggestions did he make? Ray (Cheshire, England). May 27, 201412 yr Author Ray, So you had to backtrack Rwy 02 to get to the threshold of Rwy 20? I assume you got your 'line up and wait' as you approached the runway from the taxiway. jd's comments (hoping he doesn't mind me copying them here) "A number of things Turn off display text in the RC options Turn of recorded chatter Click the .FLT/.WX button, and enter the path to where FS is storing the .pln files. in your case it is C:\Users\Nigel\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\ Do you have third party scenery? Did you click the button that says rebuild RC scenery database? That is the only way RC knows where the runways are, on your machine. Looks like you were given runway 20, you taxied there. You got on the runway but you never lined up. You were always at a heading of 39 And there is a magnetic variation of 18, so watch for that. Next time, taxi to the runway, when it’s time, line up with the runway heading. Once you are lined up, you will be cleared for takeoff" I think I followed 'to the book' when attempting Rwy 02. But on the instance for Rwy 20 I was following an AI out and so had to pull off onto the grass to let him take off and then got back on the runway and lined up. Glad that it worked for you. As I say I have only had two locations where this has happened, out of a good number of take-off's since I started my RTW trip. Nigel P.S. Presumably you were flying your 737, for you to get to Rio in a reasonable time. My Duke which manages about 950 miles range at 200kts means I have to make shorter hops and sometimes divert for fuel as was the case with SBGW.
May 27, 201412 yr Moderator Hi Nigel, Firstly, a correction. I was given Rwy 02, not 20 so sorry for that.It was very late and I was tired. But yes, I was given a line up and wait as I approached 02. I can see taxiing to 20 would be difficult with no turning area at the end but RC should still have cleared you once you were within 15 degrees of the runway heading. One thing you could do is to switch to spot view, position the viewpoint behind the aircraft and take a screenshot showing you lined up on the runway heading. Send it here and also to JD. That will prove at least you were physically aligned with the runway. If you still fail to get a take-off clearance try setting your options to these which I have used for many years. Next, check r5.csv in your RC4\data folder and see if your entries match these:- SBGW,0020,-22.798319,-45.204166,1761,15.880,5067,0,98,-18.000,-22.791374,-45.204445,0,,SBGW,0200,-22.784430,-45.204723,1761,195.880,5067,0,98,-18.000,-22.791374,-45.204445,0,, Yes, I took the 737 to Rio. Lots of cloud during the flight and having never flown to Rio before the city was spectacular. I shall definitely have to return. Ray (Cheshire, England). May 27, 201412 yr Moderator Nigel, Just flown this route again and this time Rwy 20 was in use. I held short before being instructed to contact Twr and was then given clearance to LIAW. I taxied down the runway, did a tight turn and as I straightened up was given t/off clearance. Can't replicate your bug but if you can post am image proving you were lined up it should help eliminate the possibility RC thinks you weren't. Ray (Cheshire, England).
