Is it normal for add-on airports that use custom lighting not to have lights on during IMC?

Featured Replies

I bought a highly regarded scenery that does not have any lights on during IMC. I would guess because somehow it isn't possible. How can LM not have addressed this issue? Training in low visibility without runway lights? What? That is insane! I believe I can change it so that the lights are on all the time which I guess I will have to do...Funny how they spend all this time on something as useless as cloud shadows in a "not for entertainment" product, meanwhile people are landing CATII with no approach lighting <_< . Why doesn't LM have some sort of standard for approach lighting? It is extremely important when training to have the lighting correct so that it is visible at the right distance away. When you have all these developers having to design they own lighting effects some are bound to not be very accurate. So is this the case with most add-on airports?

Mike, is the scenery you purchased actually for P3D2??  If it is, you should have no issues....if it is not, then the Third Party scenery is simply not fully compatible.

Like installing FS2000 scenery in FSX and expecting it to fully work without issues.

Can you tell us what scenery it is specifically?

Are you sure the airport is open at night? Sometimes they develop scenery/airports to operate as they would in real life.

Freeware developer Pompeii, Italy and Mount Vesuvius (pompeii_italy.zip) and A380 Flight plans (ai_a380_flightplans_redux.zip).

I was asking about lights appearing in low visibility during the daytime.

As far as I have seen it still works the way it did in FSX. Must be your scenery not compatible.

Would have been easier for the reader if you told us what addon airport you refer too. Also some addon airports require a freq to be set, for example in Com2. for runway lights to be turned on in daytime, IMC

I should have added that there are no lights during IMC even in FSX.

Badfinger: I am not asking for support for the particular airport. I just wanted to know if it is normal for add-on airports to not have lights on during IMC. Since P3D doesn't support BGL_Lights I was thinking maybe other developers are unable to have lights that turn on based on ceiling and visibility.
