May 23, 201412 yr Yesterday I bumped up the texture (because of a plane texture...) setting to 2048. I think this was the start of my chunk-block Orbx Global terrain...no focus...no autogen... This morning, on a hunch, I dropped it back to default (1024)..and lo and behold...my Global is back in its glory. I think that you can't go over the Medium Texture Setting of: 1024. For all those that (LUDO) have crapped-out graphics...are you by chance, higher than 1024?!? If so...set it back in your P3D..and then take another flight...and report what you find... That was IT! Orbx stuff needs a setting of no higher than 1024 for TEXTURE. I also have LOD set back to 9.5, and it looks fabulous out to the horizon...clear...crisp...and have been flying this way from Dawn transition to Day...near Wawa, Ontario, Canada. I have been at 6,500 ft...
May 23, 201412 yr I just did a test, using FTX Global and setting 'Texture Resolution' to from 2048 to 4096 and then down to 1024... I then slewed at full speed for thirty seconds, and see no change, my scenery maintains full resolution most of the time... if it does drop to 2.4m per pixel on some tiles, then they recover very quickly. I then tried the Raptor which even at full tilt is slower than slewing, but may use for resources, and at 700kts+ I get no degradation what so ever... that is at 4096. As the Global terrain is only 1.2meters per pixel the texture load should not affect the way it behaves... maybe the AC textures you use, or other features within other add-ons [REX clouds etc] that can use higher than 1024, are bogging you down, rather than the scenery. Regardless it is worth trying, if you have been using 2048 or 4096 for whatever reason and suffer blurries.
May 23, 201412 yr ........I also have LOD set back to 9.5, and it looks fabulous out to the horizon...clear...crisp...and have been flying this way from Dawn transition to Day...near Wawa, Ontario, Canada...... You should know that LOD 9.5 has no effect because max is 6.5 Spirit
May 23, 201412 yr Author You should know that LOD 9.5 has no effect because max is 6.5 Spirit Are you absolutely sure, Spirit? With a LOD of 9.5, I get no tiles or light orb forming, clear out to the horizon. With less...I do.
May 23, 201412 yr Sequashtoo, FTX: Global texture sizes are 1024, but using a larger texture size works fine with FTX (there were texture issues with earlier versions of P3D2), and have absolutely no effect in how FTX affects FPS or blurries (or the appearance of the FTX textures). The drop of performance is because your addon aircraft (and/or other addons, like REX, or higher resolution scenery) does include larger textures, and is using too much of your texture memory (and not leaving enough for your scenery). According to your specs, your GPU only has 2GB of RAM, which is likely why the higher texture settings do not work well for you, yet others who have more GPU RAM might not have any issues with the higher texture settings. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE

Arwen, I have 1024 textures for the REX 4 clouds, some 2048 textures for aircraft, and yes...it could be my 2 GB's on my 680. That is why I am seriously thinking of one final upgrade to the soon to be released; 6 GB 880's or 780Ti's. But...I am also seeing that those with even 4 GB cards, are having the same blur and non-formed issues with their Global textures. I wonder what that says about how truly better is a higher VRAM on board?!?! No matter, though. If I would upgrade from a 680..it would be one that made it worth while. Do you have any rendering issues a half hour into the flight, let's say?
May 23, 201412 yr Do you have any rendering issues a half hour into the flight, let's say? None whatsoever with FTX Global + Vector + FS Global 2010; and my settings for scenery are all at max. But I mainly remain in the VC view, other than a few brief periods in Spot view. I know that switching views does increase the texture load, so I keep that to a minimum (plus I like the realism of staying the VC). The only rendering over time issues I have had are with PNW (my only Orbx region) . . . so perhaps the PNW scenery uses some larger texture tiles. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
May 23, 201412 yr Moderator Mitch - I wish I could find the post but IIRC LM has flat stated that any LOD above 6.5 is ignored. This is a guess BUT I would think that if you enter an invalid value P3D would use the default setting - either 4.5 or 5.5. Earlier version defaulted to 6.5 but they changed that - not sure if 4.5 or 5.5. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

Funny, but merely going back to the mid point of 1024 for texture...gave me the sim back... Global looks like it should, once more....
May 23, 201412 yr I have similar spec to yours and I don't see blurry textures at 2048 or 4096. I also have rex clouds at 2048 and lots of fancy add on aircraft. There must be a solution for your blurry problem other than using 1024 textures. P3d's real problem is stuttering, for this there's no solution yet.
