May 25, 201412 yr I am hoping someone would be able to recommend some good freeware cloud and/or sky textures, something a bit like what rex does. I have seen the existence of such textures mentioned in previous posts, but I am on a mobile and the forum search function yielded no results for me. I also appreciate that Google could give me a good selection, but again I'm on my mobile and also I will have a limited time to fly later on today so I won't have time to individually evaluate and choose from whatever results are throw up. Therefore I'd appreciate it if someone experienced in this could give me a recommendation. I'm currently still stuck on default weather, although I hope to upgrade to ASN soon. Framerates are as usual quite important but as I insist on running the AXE into payware airports on a pitifully low end computer I can't really complain too much about the effect of the textures! Many, many thanks Finlay Waller
May 25, 201412 yr Look for hdev2.zip in the library. The best clouds one can get. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
May 25, 201412 yr Hi, I may be mistaken about this but the link provided points to FS2004 textures and causes FSX to lock up. Something to do with the color depth. I believe the same textures with the proper color depth are available at FlyawySimulations. The filename is "hdeskytexturesfsx.zip". The file instructs you to back up all the default sky textures but doesn't tell you how. It's a simple matter to look at the names of the new textures and find the textures to be replaced and coy them to a new folder. I created a folder called "Original Sky Textures" in the existing Texture folder and copied the 140 sky files to it. I haven't felt any need to go back to the original. Jim F.
May 25, 201412 yr Moderator Quoting myself, here's the link and instructions on which you can and can't use. Its called HDEv2. The clouds are the 3rd download down from the top. The second download down from the top is the sky textures remade for FSX. Dont use then sky textures from the 3rd download because they are for FS9 only. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=hde+ Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 25, 201412 yr Author Thank you all very much, I've just installed and about to go and have a look at them in action. Finlay Waller
May 25, 201412 yr Hi cmpbell, I only installed the sky textures to replace the original. I wasn't aware that they were an adjunct to a texture upgrade. It was pretty subjective but I thought they were an improvement over the original. I previewed and read the documentation of the major change and couldn't determine whether the ENB mod was a requirement. I previously installed the ENB mod and spent more time tweaking it than I cared to. Can you shed any light on this? Jim F.
May 25, 201412 yr Hey Finlay, Say that's rather poetic. Did you go for the full install including ENB? And how's it working out? I tried reading the install procedure and found myself getting a bit confused. I decided to hold off for awhile and see how it was working out for you. Jim F.
