May 26, 201412 yr I postef this in the SOH forum - but I should really have only posted here ... In the Lights/Effects conversion section, you get three tick boxes: o Exclude Particle Effects o Exclude ORBX Street Lights o Exclude Shockwave Lights It's a little unclear in the manual as to which settings are actually *desirable*. I have ORBX scenery and also use Shockwave lights. Should I be letting the Fixer convert them or exclude/leave them alone? I don't appear to have any problems (converted or not) but don't see any difference either. Adam.
May 26, 201412 yr Commercial Member Shockwave lights work in dx10 because they contain multiple textures, if you look hard you may see that some quality is lost in dx10 vs dx9 Converting will make them look identical but reduce range so you cannot see ai, I would not convert. Old style orbx lighting will flash or go off and on if you don't convert, the only downside is a small performance cost. I would convert. Particle effects unless you have a problem don't convert. It can be a big performance hit eg with spray. I think that the defaults are what I just recommended My FSX Analysis Blog
May 26, 201412 yr Author Thanks, Steve - much appreciated! It may be worth adding that to your manual - it's useful info! Adam.
May 26, 201412 yr Commercial Member I cannot actually remember what I have said in the manual, but yes I will try and clarify it. The main reason for the orbx exclude was the Vancouver area, but PNW now uses the new style ftx global lights so there is no longer any issue there. My FSX Analysis Blog
May 27, 201412 yr What's about this: I converted the shockwave lights using one of the older releases of DX10 Fixer as there this option was not available. Do I have now to reinstall the shockwave lights or is the conversion made undone when uninstalling the fixer? May 27, 201412 yr Commercial Member Any changes are undone when the libraries are uninstalled. Ie you are fine. If you have any doubt uninstall the libraries and install them again from dx10 controller My FSX Analysis Blog
