June 15, 201411 yr Oh yes, IFR flying is great. I have been really enjoying the A2A Cherokee, simulating being an aircraft owner, pushing myself to operate it at a checkride level. I have been flying it out of FTX's KMRY which frequently has a fog bank around. I really enjoy taking the Cherokee into IMC, it is such a great plane to fly by hand. Then fly the IAPs with the old CDI needles. I usually have the GPS on the fltplan page or something, don't need the magenta line at all. The Civil P-51 is another fun beast to take into IMC, a bit more of a challenge if done without the AP. Things happen very quickly, requiring the pilot to stay well ahead of the plane. The Mustang also requires a very steady hand with it's fighter handling qualities. It is a challenge, but very rewarding to grease it in. In the end, if you have a smile on your face when you shut the plane down, it was time well spent. June 15, 201411 yr A serious activity that continues to be a surrogate following my withdrawal from RW flying due to family and financial obstacles 33 years ago. Fortunately that withdrawal closely corresponded to the intro of MSFS 1.0. Though by 2014 standards, MSFS 1.0 now seems juvenile and elementary, it was a start. Together we have progressed over that time, with sorties into ATP, Pro Pilot, and Fly, on Compuserve, Prodigy, and the web, along the enroute path to today. AVSIM has also been a significant part of that journey since the late 1990's. The 10 years at Avsim shown in my profile represents a truncated timeline based on an Avsim system loss in the early 2000's that required of me a new user registration . My original ID was "fpilot".
