June 14, 201411 yr Convert FSX OBJ's To work in FS9, Can someone Please post Step By Step instruction on how to do this?I have Model Converter X bglcomp and Imagetool And i know about the Exporting from Model Converter X but i must be doing something wrong. I've seen some tutorials but there not really tutorials and definitely not Straight Forwardon top of that im not to familiar with GUI's ect ect or even how to change them.I'd really like to learn how to Export FSX Models to work in FS9 and RE-Compile them as a library if possible thanks Feel free to like my Screen Shot Page (Cheers) https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Flight-Simulator-2004-Screenshots/1448105718745013
June 15, 201411 yr I assume you have FSX in order to have access to the FSX objects in the first place, why not just stick with it. Best, Michael KDFW
June 15, 201411 yr Author Have way to many ad-dons in my FS9 to switch over to FSX on my system ^_^ I'm referring to the Freeware Objects and Scenery available for FSX. ^_^ I only fly FS9 till i get a better computer B) Feel free to like my Screen Shot Page (Cheers) https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Flight-Simulator-2004-Screenshots/1448105718745013
June 15, 201411 yr Regarding conversion of FSX objects, I would suggest that the best way to learn is through trial and error. As long as you don't overwrite any files, you should be able to figure things out pretty quickly. Most of the default FSX libraries are in the scenery/world and scenery/generic folders. There's a few more in the other folders in the scenery directory, but the main ones are there. If you're really interested in using FSX scenery, you should convert the ORBX libraries and freeware scenery once you've got the hang of it. There are now hundreds of freeware ORBX airfields and they're all fine work. I assume you have FSX in order to have access to the FSX objects in the first place, why not just stick with it. Because life is not that simple. Because people have reasons. Because what works for you doesn't work for everybody. Why does the FS9 pilot have to justify their preference?

Why does the FS9 pilot have to justify their preference? was just trying to get an understanding as to why, geez. To the OP, you will the library creator from FSDeveloper to make libraries. If for personal use, there are no issues, but if you intend to share anything you make with them, make sure you have absolute permission from anyone whose objects you used, and I am pretty sure ORBX libraries are off limits. You cannot upload/share any objects from available sceneries also without permission, just an FYI. Best, Michael KDFW

June 15, 201411 yr Commercial Member When you have the model in MCX you select the EXPORT option and when the SAVE AS screen appears you click on the SAVE AS TYPE and select FS2004 object X file. You then use makemdl.exe (do you have this program? it is vital that you do) from the FS9 Make Mdl SDK and load the FS2004 x file you have created into that and hey presto! You have a FS9 MDL file. Here is one place where you can get the FS9 sdk packs: http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/2798/microsoft-flight-simulator-2004-sdk-pack-all-kits/ You then use Library Creator to make a mdl library for use in FS9. Note: That when converting from FSX to FS9 (or vice versa) the main issue to look out for is the different way textures are handled. Especially transparencies (as used in trees, fences, glass etc). www.antsairplanes.com
June 15, 201411 yr Author Thank you Anthony, no I do not have the makemdl program thanks for giving me the heads up and providing the link along with yor instructions I will give this a try a bit later and report back, Feel free to like my Screen Shot Page (Cheers) https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Flight-Simulator-2004-Screenshots/1448105718745013
June 15, 201411 yr Personally instead of saving as an X file, I save as an FS9 MDL and then using the library creator http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/resources/library-creator-xml.86/ I then add my MDLs and create a library. As Anthony points out, transparencies will be the biggest issue and I know with direct converting from FS9 to FSX, the specular would also be way to high, not sure how it works going backwards to FS9. Best, Michael KDFW
June 15, 201411 yr I just convert the library directly - and let MCX worry about recompiling the individual models into a library. To do that, once you've opened an FSX library, simply go to the "Export Scenery" menu and select "FS2004 BGL" in the save options. MCX will then do a batch conversion in which it first exports each model individually as an MDL and then combines them into a library in the end. As Anthony points out, transparencies will be the biggest issue and I know with direct converting from FS9 to FSX, the specular would also be way to high, not sure how it works going backwards to FS9. I'm quite confident that speculars get messed up going backwards to FS9, with the specular shine in FS9 being far too low. However, I rather like the matt look that this gives the scenery libraries in FS9, so I'm happy with this. If this isn't what you want, I don't know how to fix it. Do be aware that transparency is an issue. You'll get some funny looking anomalies at times when transparency of various textures interferes with each other... FSX seems to be able to layer transparent textures arbitrarily deep, but all previous versions of FS that have supported transparency (from CFS1 on up) have had a bug wherein two transparent textures overlaid equals complete erasure of the second one, even where there is no alpha channel applied. That means you'll see holes in fences when vegetation is in the way, buildings with no back wall or interior when both walls have windows, etc. I've decided to put up with that myself, though, thinking the abundance of high quality freeware FSX airports I can port back to FS9 makes up for a little discomfort once in a while.
June 15, 201411 yr Author As Anthony points out, transparencies will be the biggest issue Does this also apply to Airport buildings ? I notice there are not many Library Objects for FSX in the Avsim library pages as there is for FS9 my main objective is to create Small Airfields by either using Library Objects from FSX or Downloading the Freeware Scenery Airfields Available for FSX in FS9. Im aware of ground Poly's not converting and The Afcads i heard can be converted using FSX2FS9 But im new with this. Id like to know by using the Method Mentiond here downloading SDK pack and Setting the Proper Paths in MDLCX to recognize the SDK tools BGLCOMP,IMAGETOOL, MAKEMDL Exporting the small Objects from the Freeware Airport sceneries and saving them as FS9 Mdl if i can Re-create that same scenery using Instant scenery and using the FSX2FS9 to just convert the AFCAD Can someone Recommend A good Library for FSX B) Its quite difficult finding them here or any other Forums as i dont see many to choose from just a couple of hangers wich seems to look like FS9 version Hangers One last thing i read somewhere the GUIS's need to be changed to FS9 Gui's what exactly is this GUI im not experienced cause ive never done i but im a quick learner thanks ^_^ Feel free to like my Screen Shot Page (Cheers) https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Flight-Simulator-2004-Screenshots/1448105718745013
June 15, 201411 yr Author Test Completed and Everything worked perfectly im on my way to make FS9 look better then Ever :-) Thanks guys for all of your help i can pretty much learn the rest from here I never knew how easy it was to convert Objects ^_^ Feel free to like my Screen Shot Page (Cheers) https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Flight-Simulator-2004-Screenshots/1448105718745013

When adding Models using Library maker does it necessarily have to be 1 by 1 i mean for example if theirs 100 MDLS you'd like to add to the library this can be quite time consuming. June 17, 201411 yr Author Hello again Guys i've been learning allot id like to know one last thing If i where to change the Objects GUID's to match the Original GUIS'S would theFSX placement Files work in FS9 and place the Objects Accordingly? Ive been only converting and putting the Freeware Airports together. I've noticed that after Exporting with MDCVX the Guis changes when i place them in Lib maker the GUID'S do not match the ones in the Placement files Feel free to like my Screen Shot Page (Cheers) https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Flight-Simulator-2004-Screenshots/1448105718745013
