ORBX Vector 1.15 for FSX....I'm sold!

Featured Replies

So many differences between Vector and UTX...

....I'm sitting on a rolling landscape watching the cars perfectly follow the rolling terrain.  Not sort of either climbing or descending such as was with UTX.  The roads PERFECTLY match and cling to the differing terrain....and the cars are truly now in real-life motion. That is just one of the stark differences I am finding since having switched over about an hour ago from my UTX installation, to that of now...a Vector 1.15 install.

I have set up Vector 1.15 such as I did for UTX...and have no loss in FPS. That is good news.  More things happening....more accurate placement of objects, and even features showing up, that did not under UTX. vector control. So are there differences, Folks?  You bet....and none of them are in the negative territory.....

The rocky shoreline of the Pacific North-West is superb.  Breakers are coming in, most life and this is with ORBX Gobal, yet!

Now...for my first Global/Vector/OpenLC flight between London, England and Bonn, Germany.

Happy flyin' everybody!

Another sleepless, night...LOL!

Post Edit:  Another glaring positive difference between UTX handling vector to FTX-Global, rather than Vector 1.15, is that with Vector in control...ALL human habitation has a proper road leading to the properties...that IS ALIGNED with where the drive-way are...and not hap-hazard.  Each property has a feeder road from the primary or secondary, that is not merely a straight grey line, to sort of  'attach' to the property edges. Nope...it meanders, depending on vegetation, geography, forestry...etc.  They (ORBX) are right...and it is no false claim. Vector does fully integrate with FSX-Global...and the marriage is a beautiful one.  I now absolutely would recommend that a present UTX user...truly, and fully consider reinvesting in a more up-to-date, as well as a fully integrated vector agent, if they are also enjoying FSX-Global.  It will be a win/win for you.  I know...I'm flying over it right....now.  Of course I had Vector for months installed in P3D...but in that installation, I could not/did not see glaring A/B differences between a UTX product, and Vector 1.15   I now can....with each nautical mile...

Go take a flight around KSUW or KDYT.. but first, go take a look at google maps vs what you're seeing in FSX..

Hi Rich....presently I'm in what has got to be one of the best virtual flight simulation flights of my life....my GAWD....I look out from the cockpit...and I can't SEE ONE REPETITION of texture, field, stream, forest (the forests have infinite shape and design), not merely re-appearing 'down the flight line!  The land is gently rolling over fields and valleys to horizontal 'infinity', where Human habitation planting would be, where a treeline would be, wow-oh-wow, as FTX GLOBAL has never been....so real...that I'm almost in tears....this is God's Country below me.....and I am most grateful, to be able to enjoy this, tonight.  Rich...ORBX has giving me, this night, everything I could ask for...everything that I always hoped for to see in virtual aviation. My gawd...but is FTX-GLOBAL driven by Vector and OpenLC....beyond description....beyond...description....

FSX (DX10) is not dead....but only awakening.....only, awakening!

Wow.....

I am a very vocal anti-fan of screenies. They do NOT fully represent the live in-sim action upon the screen. Too many variables between that screen, screenies do not translate the clarity and fidelity of the in-sim action to the viewer...but I wished to share 'the dream'...as best I could, all the same.  Cheers!

Awesome Mitch cant wait to load it up but I'm looking at another 2 hours so will have to wait till tomorrow - cant wait for US landclass - should be great - you ever consider writing a book as your choice of words are like something out of a book - thats a good thing brother - enjoy

Massive flooding in Wisconsin perhaps.. I'd like to hope that I'm the only one but the support forums have confirmed the anomaly. Sadly, a lot of their tech support has basically responded to issues like this with a very canned "This will be fixed in 1.20".. Furthermore, it appears that not every road it modeled in Vector, so sure, you get some major roads.. just not residential roads. Sadly, my road, a 12 mile-45mph stretch of road that runs past my place and connects more than 5 communities out in the country has been completely omitted.. and I'm sure I'm not the only one..

My point is, I get that software gets glitchy sometimes, things eventually get fixed. I just think this came out a bit too early and the customer base was used as beta testing.. look at their forums and you'll see a ton of support requests that haven't been answered and a ton of people who have reverted back to UTX

UTX was very good at road placement - flew right to my street but never cared after that one time actually

Rich, be sure to uninstall each UTX product you have (I had three) BEFORE you install Vector 1.10 (then patch to 1.15 for FSX)  I also suggest you reboot your system to a fresh desk top before you install Vector.  If you have a Registry Cleaner...I suggest you use it right after uninstalling/deleting all UTX from your system.  Then reboot. That is my routine for each uninstall, or re-install.

You will also see massive benefits to having Vector run FSX, just as you do in P3D.   The same benefits hold.  I am nearing the border between France and Germany, in the above two pics..of gently rolling hills. The haze at 7,500 ASL (as per A.T.C) is beautiful to behold, as it plays with those hills...experiencing some light 'turb via ASN as I approach the initial foothills of this chain.... :P

Actually...you almost made me spew my coffee, Rich...for I am indeed writing;... a thriller-suspense, and am on the third chapter. My wife has finally egged me onto doing it from the Bucket List. I had always had an idea for material for a book, (I love thriller-suspense) and she has always been my most ardent 'nudge on the shoulder'. Your post sure caught me off-guard, lol!

Cheers!

OK fair enough.

Question for you: How many updates/years did it take for UTX to "get it right"?

UTX was very good at road placement - flew right to my street but never cared after that one time actually

Agreed.. UTX was good for road placement and not making residential roads look like crap on approach. Sad thing is I live out in the middle of the country between 2 towns and there isn't a road that goes anywhere near where I live in vector, even though there are some high speed roads around here IRL... Obviously there was a problem with road classifications in Open Streetmap and ORBX decided to change sources.. hopefully they will fix the problem and include more roads.. I was pretty upset to find out that I was buying only some major roads when it seemed to be advertised like every road was included.. How upset would you be about spending that much money only to find out they only included highways.. Just my opinion.

Honestly, never had a problem with UTX other than having to pay an arm and a leg to cover portions of the world.. I just stay on top of updates.

Damien do you have all the roads turned on ? you can do that in the configurator - I would assume you know this though

I do.. Found out shortly after release via their support forums they have no intention of modeling residential roads and their source originally was crowd-sourced info from open streetmaps.

'Author Mitch', lol...that made me smile...   Germany is a good start around Berlin.  Pretty eye-popping.  I'm waiting for North America and South America...and I should be all done for Land Class. They will still probably have me on the hook for Regions....as I'm starting to ho-hum for specific airports. I find that I fly in and out of them a few times...and then don't see them for weeks or months on end.  If it is my real-world FBO...that will be different...but I think I will mainly save the pesos for entire custom regions, pretty much here-on...

Anyway Rich..enjoy Vector, Victor!

You guys are convincing me about Vector and OpenLC.

Please, don't do that.

I need some money to eat. :(  :P
