Thanks Pete, I intend to set the CDU sound settings to same as yours, default. Then test. Doubt it will make a difference, I have messed with them before, just trying to eliminate variables.

Last resort is uninstall /re install

Don't think that will work Pete. I had no sounds prior to SP1. Now with SP1, still no sounds.

Will probably try it though if nothing else transpires.

Just a thought maybe your original rtm  was a corrupted  download so doing  a  re install  wont fix your issue. maybe you need to download   the new installer   just a thought?

Good news...

Previously, when testing sound settings in the CDU, I gravitated straight for "ambience" deciding that would be the setting most likely to be responsible for touchdown sounds. No luck, even at 100% made no difference.

However... I have now reinstalled. Now with ambience at 80-100% all landing sounds are present.

And very impressive they are too. Exactly what I had been expecting.

Thanks for your help chaps.

so my idea  doing  a re install  worked  that's a first for me :P

Martin, I tried to isolate the MLG touchdown sound from the other ones (not arming the spoilers and stuff).

My touchdown sound (MLG only) is a rather faint one, can you confirm?

Seems that way Pete. Weird that I had tried all sound settings including ambiance, with no effect, and after the reinstall ambiance works.

Hi Oliver.

It depends on the "ambiance" setting in the CDU. they aren't extremely loud, if you push it right up to 100% the sounds are apparent, about what I would expect. I have mine at 80% currently.

Try setting them all to 100% and test. Then you can back them off as you see fit.

Who knows, you may have to reinstall as I did.

I'm not sure it's specifically MLG, there are all kinds of rates and rumbles. Quite realistic I thought.

As Armen said...

we added 9 main gear touchdown sounds (yes nine!) - and one is chosen at random in every flight - the files are located in the "FSX/Sound/PMDG/Various" folder and are named "PMDG_777_Touchdown.wav" to "PMDG_777_Touchdown9.wav" - These are programmed so that the volume of the sound is proportional to touchdown impact force.

As you can see from playing back the nine sounds that it is mostly the sound of cockpit rattling - rather than bass heavy thuds or bangs - but they are there and do playback.

It's a different touchdown sound, chosen at random each flight. And proportional to impact force. Mostly cockpit rattling.
