P3D2.3 and ASN Huge FPS drop

Featured Replies

The whole point of the dynamic Cloud Draw Distance is for ASN to change the cloud draw distance in P3D so as to have the best of both worlds (performance when you need it, eye candy when you don't), so of course the slider is going to change in P3D. If you don't want the distance to change then set the minimum and maximum to the same setting in ASN and it will act exactly the same way as it does in P3D normally i.e. it wont move.

Andy posted this as I made my edit to my post above. So confirms the dynamic adjustment to P3D settings! Neat feature of ASN. Explains why I got FPS back in the heavy cloud situation I described previously - it knocked draw distance down to 60 from 80 automatically to cope!

Very useful information Andy, thanks! :D

To be honest, after keeping a close look on the things I tried, I'm not at all convinced that the problem is ASN itself, but a combination of several elements coming together.

I do think that when this bug might appear it can be fixed with playing around with cloud settings in ASN and P3D, though.

The one thing I dont like very much, is that I cant find many consistencies when trying to find one clear fix... After the first time, I willingly triggered the problem twice today and the only thing I can tell for sure is that on my system, it comes down to indeed 'playing around with those settings' until FPS jumps back up...

And now everything works as should again, I'm going to stop messing up my system and enjoy flying for a while! :P

Cheers!

Maarten

What I see sometimes with the new ASN beta are doubled cloud sprites. As if I need a new pair of glasses there's two identical sprites next to each other. So far I only see a performance drop with heavy cloud load (150m out), but when it's all doubled sprites then that's to be expected. Anyone else seeing this? Could be something on my end but I have no idea what. I've already set coverage to lowest.

Gerrit - I've seen that through the years with FSX and now P3D. With or without ASN, REX, etc.  I don't think anyone has actually identified the cause. But it's NOT you or your system.
