VNAV INV and it started to climb? Strange as mine don't :(

I've been selecting the TRANS after the MAP does this matter?

No shouldn't matter. I pressed the ALT INTV and the plane climbed. I will try the flight again when I get home in a few hours, this time I might do a video

No joy still not got a clue why this is doing it

I'll see if I can record something later if Antoni doesn't beat me to it. Didn't have the time yesterday. Never recorded FSX, so no promises, though.

Here's what I did, and I think it's the same as what you're doing:

  • Fly ILS 04 down to minimums.
  • Press TO/GA, clean the aircraft up and climb out.
  • After stable at 3000' enter the STAR starting from LOREL
  • Set 6000' on the MCP
  • Click Altitude Intervene

Now it won't accept altitude intervene.

However, if I do NOT enter the star, it will accept the altitude intervene and climb to 6000 under VNAV PTH, same as in Antoni's video. He doesn't do what you do, though.

Why this happens and if this is correct behavior, I do not know. I only know that it will not get out of VNAV ALT using altitude intervene after the STAR has been entered.

Cheers guys for going away and doing this work!

Brazen thats the exact problem i'm having. Not sure why? Only RW pilots would prob know but i'm not posting it on PPrune and getting laughed at lol or it could be another BUG?

Vernon Howells

Not sure. I don't think I have enough knowledge of the subject.

If you have the airplane, it would be great if you have the time and willingness to try it out for yourself. I think the charts used are these: STAR/ILS.

Other than that, it's down to mere curiosity for me now.

And for the record: Non US charts are nasty ...

Brazen nothing to do with EU (jaa) or FAA charts. Its down to this complex A/C that WE have embarked upon to learn which RW pilots take years to learn! Don't worry we have all the time in the world and no one will be harmed!

I'm sure we both will solve this one or atleast find out!

Vernon Howells

Perhaps you could re enter the cruise alt as 6000.

Altitude intervention should reset the cruise altitude to the MCP altitude if the MCP altitude is higher than the VNAV cruise altitude.  Does the cruise page show an altitude or boxes?  If it's boxes than it sounds like VNAV is jumping directly to descent mode and therefore won't accept the climb to a higher altitude.  In that case resetting the cruise altitude manually should work.
