Lear 24 localizer question

Featured Replies

Hi

I recently bought the 24 and am having problems with localizer capture and descent.

I'm going from KSFO to KSTS with the approach of ILS 32 with the transition of SAU loaded in the GPS. ILS freq set tp 109.30.

GPS/NAV  switch set to GPS.

The 24 does find the localize, that is. the little G/S triangle appears and as I et closer, it drops but the aircraft does not descend.

I know I'm doing some thing wrong, but don't know what.

Thanks,

Mark

When tuning to a localizer, that switch needs to be in Nav mode. The navigation then tunes to the nav 1 radio. When the switch is set to GPS, the navigation source is the default GPS.

Hope this helps!

I think the Collins HSI in the Learjet only has glideslope, but it sounds like it also has localizer? I've been having trouble myself trying to capture an ILS approach....off to do some more approaches...

Cheers

The switch was in Nav mode (my mistake). Still won't descend. I watched their tutorial on YouTube on this but wasn't much help as his worked perfectly.

What was your speed and altitude on the approach?

Be sure you are intercepting the GS from below

Are you using the approach mode on the autopilot? Also why not just hand fly they approach? Its way more fun, and its a great challenge if you havent done alot of IFR flying. If you need practice and don't want to be in the clouds hit the park mode switch and it will put covers over the windows which basicly act like the hoods or foggles we use in real instrument training. I shot 6 ils's at PAKT tonight and would just flip the park mode switch off when I got to minimums to simulate breaking out.

There would never just be a glide slope... There's no such thing as a glide slope approach.

The needle in the middle would act as the localizer.

This could very well be part of the problem. This jet is so freekin' fast I wasn't paying attention to airspeed as much as I should have.

Yes.

Correct, not sure what I was thinking...
