What can I install on my second Non-FSX drive?

Recommended Posts

As I continue to purchase more add-ons my main FSX SSD is filling up. I have my Windows OS and FSX on a 240gb SSD and I have a nearly empty 1TB HDD. Out of my add-ons what can I install on to the backup drive and is there a specific way to do it?

FSX

Rex4

ActiveSky Next

Vpilot

FTX Central (global)

PMDG 737NGX

Wilco CRJ Nextgen

FS2Crew

I know FTX and scenery stuff needs to be on the main drive, what about the rest?

REX4 and Active Sky Next can be installed on the other drive.

Actually, some scenery stuff doesn't need to be there.  I run all of my photoscenery on a second (and third) drive.  So long as the path points to the right place in the scenery library, you're golden.

I run all of my scenery on a 3TB HD including ORBX. I haven't noticed any difference in the Sim when I switched ORBX from a SSD to a HD.

Really, I don't think there is a reasonably priced SSD big enough that would accommodate all of ORBX,global, mesh, vector and Photo scenery

I have 5 drives for FSX (3 SSD and 2 platter) All my scenery is on separate drives, except for the stock scenery that's installed when you install FSX. My ASN, REX, and FEX addons are also on the separate drives. Like Zoran above, I don't really notice a difference between the scenery that is on the SSD's or platter drives when in the sim. Where there IS a difference is transferring files around.

When I installed the ASN update today it said it had to be on the FSX drive, I guess not?

I am curious what your guys folders look like for scenery being pointed to the main FSX scenery folder I would like to do this.

Recently installed an extra HD as the HD with FS9/FSX including my add-ons was nearly full.

Re-installed MSE on this HD without any trouble, I just altered the disc letter in the path.

Wanted to do the same with Aerosoft Night Environment scenery as I had just downloaded the up-date versions.

However when I tried to changed the disc letter I got a message that FSX could not be found.

So I just re-installed on the original "FSX" disc.

Any suggestions

My SSD is partitioned and I keep all of my scenery on the second partition.

I've ben running scenery from a separate hard drive for several years previously with no issues.

FSX can run a lot of things from a separate location, but some scenery and aircraft can be a bit picky about where it is placed (e.g. ORBX).
