What's your recipe for great cloudscapes using REX, AS2012 & ASN?

Featured Replies

I just upgraded to ASN SP1, and have REX Essential + OD and also Active Sky 2012.  I dislike the length of time REX and ASN take to download and inject weather so don't tuse them except for an occasional change of cloud bitmaps.

I usually pleased with ASN's rendering of cloudscape, it seems quite accurate when I compare with what I see out of the window at home.

However, down here in Cornwall, UK, we had a fresh unstable Atlantic airstream yesterday bringing some magnificent towering Cumulonimbus clouds, very heavy rain showers with a bit of hail and some thunder.

Flying GA/VFR in FSX from my local airfield, I didn't see any Cu Nim, just the usual array of Cumulus from my last choice from the Active Sky 2012 cloud pack, with rain, thunder and lightening appearing to originate from areas of blue sky.  Something, somewhere wasn't quite right.

Tell me please, to get the best accurate portrayal, would you load up your choice of cloud from REX or AS2012, and then run ASN?  Or, just run ASN and rely on ASN to choose the best bitmaps from the textures folder?

What's your recipe for accurate cloudscapes using these three great tools?

Many thanks,

Phil

I think Active Sky makes for the best cloudscapes. I manually choose the cloud textures - I have harvested my favorites from the texture directory when they were loaded into the sim.

I have the same products, and in my case ASN loads and injects weather so much faster than REX.  Perhaps you mean that your Internet connection is slow for both programs.  For me, ASN injects the weather, and I use either REX or AS2012 graphics for the clouds.  I ensure that ASN is in "Live Real time mode".

didn't think that asn was a texture addon only  a weather addon
