Pulse Light System!

Featured Replies

Yeah that would be really awesome if it could be implemented in FS. I made a post about it 6 months ago, however no one really noticed.

i posted yesterday, and no one looked at it. So i thought id try again. If people knew what pulse lights where, i think they would be more for the idea..

Hi Chase,No offense, but you're making it seem like this is some great revelation / "idea" that no one knows about.I have pulse lights on my real Piper Dakota, they've been around for a while. There was a post at the old SGA forum, a few months ago about them- they are nothing new. HOWEVER, do not assume all aircraft have them installed. They are not as common as you might think. If an aircraft has them installed, I am sure the developer will simulate them on that particular aircraft. They are not "standard equipment" on most aircraft. From a real pilot's perspective: I like them. They add to collision avoidance and night landings, but I can hardly see them flashing out on the wing tips. In real life, I do not have the abilty to hit shift-S and go outside my plane to watch them flash. ;-)It's also not cheap to replace a bulb when one burns out. In fact, you could buy a few high quality FS add-ons for much less money!BTW, they do not only pulse, but also go steady, just like landing lights. I turn them to pulse before takeoff, and turn them off after landing. At night, I turn them on steady while on final. If you search around real aviation web sites, you will see many things that can / could be simulated in FS, and you can be certain that the development community is aware of such and, if possible, will simulate such when installed on the aircraft they are simulating. For example: Pulse lights will be simulated when we model my Piper Dakota in the near future, as my Dakota has them installed. ;-)Example: Did you know you could get a Heads Up Display (HUD/HGS) for a Cessna?I flew a Piper Warrior, earlier this week, that had electric aileron trim installed.I don't mean to sound harsh, not at all, but considering that there are now two posts about this here, you make it sound like we do not know about them. We do, but they are not that common on most aircraft, and developers tend to simulate what is on the real aircraft they are modeling. If realism is the goal, and based on posts here, I think it is, then developers tend to model what is real, and pulse lights are not installed on the vast majority of aircraft.Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

Someone made a pulse landing light for the Aerosoft Beaver. They only have one, but mayby could be adapted for your purpose. They just replaces the landing light with it.

Well, what i really meant was id like to see them around here in FS. I think they would be very nice in movies. I have never seen this done in FS, but i do think it would be nice. Ive actually looked into pulse lights several times and have learned about this. But like i said, i just think it would look very nice.SWA 737's have them, and in my issue of Controller (catalog of biz jets up for sale), they list under additional equipment, if pulse lights are installed, and i must say, Over 85% of the jets in that book, have them. I just think they would be nice in fs. :)

The citation in fu3 had these lights

I remember flying a plane that had pulse lights on the nose gear, it was either in FS98 or FS2002, or it may have been fly! or fly!2 I can't remember, but I was excited when I first noticed it! Sorry I don't have any more deatils, but I'm telling the honest truth!Jeff

Gentleman,I'm currently looking into development of an .fx file based pulse light for the Flight1 PC-12. Using the fx file based pulselight would be great as this could be implemented on virtually any Flightsim aircraft. The big question is this:Can the timing of the lights be accurate with an .fx file? This is something I'm going to be exploring here very, very shortly. :-hahNick Preston :-abductEaglesoft Development GroupGraphics, Livery Artist

I concur, they look cool. I used to see them on the bizjets at the airport I got my PPL at.If I ever get a plane, even just a C172, I'd look into it.Jim

hehe.. does that mean we will be able to have pulse lights for virtually any aircraft? :-jumpy

If I can accomplish the goal of getting the timing correct, I can release this to the public. This would only be something available in spot view as actual landing light splash oscillations from the pulselight system would need to be hard coded into the model using XML and some other technologies. So, honestly it would be a non functional visual effect. You would be able to see them in certain views, mostly spot view and tower view. :-dohNick Preston :-abductEaglesoft Development GroupGraphics, Livery Artist

This is extremely interesting! Thanks for your efforts Nick, and the best of luck to you! It'll be really sweet if you can get something going with that FX file.
