November 30, 201411 yr Hi ppl I'm really frustrated. Fourth consecutive flight that I can't finish. After 2 blackouts in my neighborhood one CTD I was finally on final 08R KMIA (LatinVFR version 2.2, Miami City Dzwki) when my FSX Ommed. At FL360 I had 1.6gb of free VAS (I monitor my free VAS using FSUIPC). At FL100 and 20 miles from KMIA my VAS went down to 1.1GB, fair enough 1GB of allocated textures seems a lot of space left. I did an outbound turn to the west to intercept the ILS08R, free VAS was at 800mb. At 8NM VAS started to go rapidly down from 800 to 500, on short final it went from 300 to 200. I started pausing the sim to see the behavior, 100MB of VAS were added, but 5 seconds after 150MB. 100Ft AGL 120MB left, OOM. So please explain to me how the hell an approach to KMIA can drain 1.1GB of VAS from nowhere?. I tried everything, currently 1024 textures, Autogen Med, Scenery Complexity Dense, I don't use external view, all unused sceneries disabled. memory. November 30, 201411 yr You have an i5 4670K system and you are using Bojote's tweaks? The tweaks made for 3 or 4 years ago? Those are what are bringing your system to its knees. Move your fsx.cfg to another folder, restart FSX and let a new config rebuild. Do not add tweaks (you will need to add the FSX fix though - highmemfix=1 in the Graphics section. It's a shame you had to turn off AI. That's what tweaks will do to you though. Modern systems like yours do not need tweaks. You are now in the 21st century and you have a modern computer. Bojote's tweaks were probably good for older systems before Sandy Bridge but they don't work in modern systems. The BufferPool tweak is the worse of them all. I got my information from NickN and some other experts, plus my own research and knowledge of computer systems. Try the fsx.cfg settings in the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide. They work for 99.9% of all users. Perfect crisp and clear graphics. No tweaks. it's totally ridiculous how FSX handles memory. FSX was allocated 4GB's of Virtual Memory (VAS) because it is a 32 bit application. That's all Windows allocates for any 32 bit application. The reason most individuals today are suffering from crashes, OOM's, is due to the power of the computer system. Sounds strange but people think they have such a powerful system, they can crank up their settings to the max. In your case, your settings appear modest but you have tweaks that are actually eating up resources, like the SmallPartRejectRadius=4. Yikes! That's a killer! You also have the TextureMaxLoad=30 setting which is a well-known framerate killer. I mean, that setting really eats memory! Might have been good in the FS9 days though with a less than state of the art computer system for that time. But enough of the FSX.cfg. That's only one aspect of using FSX and addons can do some major damage to your system resources too. For instance, REX Direct Textures. Change anything from the default and you are asking for trouble. Some goes with any weather program like ASN or OPUS. Those programs alone could bring your system to its knees if settings are not optimal. And, I'll go back to what I stated before, people think they have a super powerful system so they crank up the settings. PMDG aircraft take up a lot of resources too but you want eye-candy so you crank those settings up. So this is why you are having so many crashes and getting very frustrated. If you want more information about VAS and other suggestions for fixing OOM's, check out the AVSIM CTD Guide. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 30, 201411 yr Author Thanks Jim. Before all the tweaking I had just HighMemFix and Framerate unlimited and locked with radeonPro. FPS weren't as good as I wished so I tested the Bojote's configuration and It worked nicely. I have to say that I only had OOM with the T7, I've made 4 flight's in a row without restarting FSX with the NGX and I was not even near the VAS limit (at least 500MB free). I realized that the Dzwki installer switched my Texture_max_load from 1024 to 4096, I deleted TextureMaxLoad too. My main issue is OOM cos fps-wise FSX runs smooth and with nearly no stuttering. November 30, 201411 yr You need to get rid of all of the tweaks, especially the Bufferpool tweak. You wanted to know how to stop the OOM's and this is the answer. You are throwing too many unnecessary resources on your system's VAS. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! December 1, 201411 yr Author Well, completed a flight to LEMD (Aerosoft Barajas X), a very cloudy night 900MB of free VAS, it's a start. I switched all the modules to manual load, so for example I don't have to load the Addon Manager and Coault if I'm not going to use them. Gonzalo Ramazco - SWD1570, STH1476, SKA0397.
December 1, 201411 yr How long was the flight? You'll start to hear FSUIPC making warning sounds when you get down to about 500MB. In the AVSIM CTD Guide there's a blurb about how to monitor VAS using the FSUIPC where you can include the VAS usage in the FSUIPC log. This way you can see how much you had when you started and how much when you landed and see how it fluctuates up and down depending on scenario. December 1, 201411 yr Author 900MB at landing, with an average of 1.7 during crz. I'm using FSUIPC to monitor VAS yes, I set the free VAS counter con the FSX window frame, very useful tool indeed. I will try to make some analysis on how VRAM influences VAS usage. Maybe there is a direct relationship between VAS increasing and no VRAM available. Do you know if there is a way to monitor free VRAM with FSUIPC? Gonzalo Ramazco - SWD1570, STH1476, SKA0397.
December 1, 201411 yr I do not. I'm not sure whether that would be useful or not. When VAS runs out, it does not matter how big your page file or how much memory you have in your system. VAS could care less. I have created a desktop icon for the fsuipc.log. That way, once the flight is complete, I can see what happened. Another tool I have included in the AVSIM CTD Guide is the FSX/P3D Process Monitor. I provide instructions on how to monitor just fsx and fsx addons during a flight. You can then see what loaded during your flight and maybe think about shutting it down. I like the fact I can monitor just what is loading in FSX and nothing else; however, the log gets very large and about 8 GB's per hour. So a lot of data. You can still scroll through the log and see what was loading or when an addon was going on the Internet to check the license for the product or to download weather. Some of it may be surprising.
