Pardon my ignorance gentlemen but could anyone tell me the reason / purpose for the small rectangular window / framed area, in the windscreen of Barons and Senecas (and possibly some other twins) ?

Possible heated windscreen panel to keep ice from building up??  Sounds reasonable to me, anyway! :rolleyes:

Charlie said it, it's one of these. http://www.avfab.com/cessna-401-402-411-414-421-425-cessna-windshield-anti-ice-hot-plate-kit Delivering electrical heating for that area as opposed to just being able to roughly re-direct some hot air.

 

The operation might affect magnetic compass readings.

Ah that's interesting.   I thought it was some sort of physical guiding view thing for landing, a sort of mechanical HUD!

Don't feel bad!  That was going to be my first guess until I realized it was off center too much for me to

 

use as a gunsight. :rolleyes:

Hey, David I just bought the Seneca V from FSS and was wondering the same thing. I guess that is why I was off on the runway trying to land at KORS. Thanks guys for clearing this up.
