December 24, 201411 yr It's finally here, a payware version of John Wayne! For a long time, we only had the freeware John Wayne by MK Scenery, recently fixed by Shez Ansari. It was a great airport, not just for freeware scenery, but just a great scenery by any standard. Latin VFR has given us a truly detailed version however, I purchased it this morning, and am very impressed. There's a lot of detail people familiar with the area will appreciate... dry grass on the runoffs, correct tree types, spinning radar on the tower, freeway underpasses, the familiar office buildings in Irvine and along the 55, and the twin blimp hangars in Tustin that can be used to mark the base leg for runway 19R 20R (that'll take a while to get used to) in circuit patterns. The photoscenery is crisp and not too garish (seems more muted than the screenshots on SimMarket). Performance seems great too - no worse than the freeware versions we've had previously. Looking forward to reading everyone's reactions. Ethan Edelson

December 24, 201411 yr Sweet! Perf is good? How does it compare to SAN? December 24, 201411 yr Author Performance is good. I don't have KSAN so can't compare, but I'm getting mid-30s in the Lancair right now doing circuits, which is pretty typical for a detailed addon airport. I think it should do atleast mid 20s in the NGX, but need time for a solid flight. Night textures are beautiful. VAS went from about 1.9gb to 2.1gb in the length of a few circuits, but that's not especially high. The only problem I have encountered is a freeze that occurs somewhere in the vicinity of the hangars. I have a feeling the Tustin MCAS ADEX has something to with it, seems like there is some sort of conflict or hesitation while trying to load the airport. You can still select MCAS from the free flight menu, so FSX still recognizes it as an airport. Since MCAS is now defunct, I wonder if there's a way to remove the ADEX for it entirely. December 25, 201411 yr Guys who have it - do you also have FSDT LAX? Do you use Shez's LGB too? Wondering how the vas is then? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
December 25, 201411 yr Author Guys who have it - do you also have FSDT LAX? Do you use Shez's LGB too? Wondering how the vas is then? I have FSDT KLAX and Shez's KLGB, but I usually disable one or the other depending on where I'm flying to. With all the available scenery for the LA/Orange County area you could easily OOM in some planes if you keep them all active. There's FTX Global freeware airports all over the place, a freeware Catalina from Aerosoft, KLAX and KLGB as you mentioned, KONT also from Shez, and all sorts of other available scenery for the area. It's pretty ridiculous how much there is in such a small spacs - it's given me lots of headaches. How FTX will manage to make a region here without performance nightmares is beyond me. I'll be flying round trips between KSNA and Las Vegas or beyond with the NGX and let you know how it goes. When I do so, I'll keep KLAX and KLGB on as a minimum, and Catalina as well since it's VOR is integral to certain KSNA departures. And are other people are having the same issue with the freezing over Tustin MCAS? It always happens when I am heading east, about to turn base for runway 20R. Ethan Edelson
