pfpx vs fscommander

Why, I'm still deciding, and no responses regarding fuel calculators ?

I don't think that FSC9 claims to be a complete planner. You can find a route, you can import weather information related (only) to airports, you can visualise SIDs and STARs and the result can be exported. The rest has to be done with the little help of other tools - or your FMC. In this respect PFPX is quite complete.

PFPX is very good at fuel calcs for B737. As a plus, it interfaces with ASN giving the planner the same weather as the flightsim.

Yes, it fits usually, even after I received a bundle of error messages recently I wasn't able to handle. Finally I added an extra ton of fuel which appeared to be just more ballast at the end.

After purchasing Aerosoft's A320 I ended up buying PFPX almost by default but then realised that it didn't include transitions, so I tried FSC9 trial version. The UI hurt my eyes. A lot. So I uninstalled almost immediately. It made me realise how good PFPX's UI was and that I'd managed to get going very quickly with it without reading up at all. The lack of transitions is something I can live with as I can generally find them elsewhere but I hope that it's something that will come later on.

PFPX certainly does provide SID and STAR transitions, if they exist.  Just flew KSFOKLAX route SSTIK1.EBAYE..AVE.SADDE6 where EBAYE is the SID SSTIK1 transition and AVE is the SADDE6 STAR transition.

Maybe you mean IAP transitions?  No, it does not include IAPs but that is reasonable since the approach is not known until on arrival.

Thanks for your responses guys, please keep em com'n ? Im still not convinced that pfpx is a polished enough product as yet, to warrant the cost ? There is some very good freeware out there to manipulate, with what is available, and a little mathematics, I could possibly get buy ;-). It's potential as a purchase, has arisen :-)

Ivan,

Real flightplans (some might be outdated) you can find here http://www.edi-gla.co.uk/fpl/login.php?go=/fpl/index.php (requires registration) or could be constructed here (for FS use only): http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/. Real flightplans within the US are available here: http://de.flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL130/history/20120625/2249Z/KIAD/EGLL (this example is even pond crossing).

Weight & Balance sheets are available mostly for high-end add-ons like the NGX. You might want to search here in the Forum. I remembered this one, but it might not be the final and latest development here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/424726-737ng-dispatch-sheet-updated-to-version-495/?hl=%2Bexcel

Thanks Axel, I am aware of most of these, but not the latter. This dispatch software looks very promising, looking forward to trying it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Cheers
