May 20, 200521 yr I know I may be a few months behind on this but I found the ** heavy Jets and bombers to be a great package. I really got it solely for the B-17 and while you can get that by itself the price for the complete package is almost equal to the B-17 by itself. I have always wanted to fly the B-17 and it seems by most of what I read it is close to the real thing as you can get in FS9. I havent flown any of the other aircraft yet but I look forward to trying them out. Anyway just thought I would post this and see what anyone else thinks. Also there are some great B-17 WWII bases over at Sim-Outhouse.com. Right know though I am flying Yankee Lady to all her Airshow appearances listed on the Yankee Air force site. Makes for alot of fun. Andrew
May 20, 200521 yr Right>know though I am flying Yankee Lady to all her Airshow>appearances listed on the Yankee Air force site. Makes for>alot of fun.>>That's a cool idea. I really like the ** package as well. There problem is, there are so many good planes and too little time to fly them!Tony
May 20, 200521 yr Hi Andrew,A few years ago, I had the privilege of booking a flight on the Yankee Lady. I cannot put into words how incredible it was to ride in a real B17. For me, it was a dream come true. The sights and noise, is all unforgettable. After take off, we were able to walk about the cabin. I sat in all of the positions (except tail gunner and ball turret) before the landing came all too soon. As you would probably guess, the view from the nose (bombardier
May 20, 200521 yr Thanks for the Sim-Outhouse tip. I had no idea that many WW2 airfields were available. Great stuff.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. May 20, 200521 yr Nick, Thanks for recalling your flight. I would love to fly on the B-17. Like I said it is my favorite WWII aircraft and to actually fly on one would be truly awesome. I am still seeing if I can spend the $400 for the flight. I think the Yankee Lady will be at Reading for the MAAM WWII weekend.Doug, I agree, I didnt know Sim-outhouse existed until I got a tip on this site when I was asking about the ** package. I make it a regular stop now to check out whats available. Andrew
May 20, 200521 yr AndrewThanks for reminding me about Wings of Power. Like you I planned to get it for one aircraft - in my case the Lancaster - but I ended up spending my pocket money on something else. I reckon I'll get it this time as it's very reasonably priced on a few sites here in the UK.Nick's flight in the B-17 sounds fantastic. I'd love to do the same. I got a look inside a Lancaster and a B-17 a few years back, and the thing that really struck me was how cramped the Lanc was. Looking at it from outside you'd think there would be more room, but it was a struggle moving around even without bulky flying kit on. Best view was from the bomb aimer's position in front, once you'd worked out how to get down into it. The B-17 and other US aircraft were far better designed as far as 'crew comfort' was concerned - British designers were notorious in treating the crew almost as an afterthought. The Lanc was still the best bomber though!:-) RegardsIan
May 20, 200521 yr Andrew,I highly recommend taking a flight if you can work the money into your budget. Believe me, I am not rich. However, my wife actually encouraged me to take the flight. At the time, we had a little bit of a surplus. She told me to "Go for it". She knew how much I love the old warbirds. That was the best $400.00 I ever spent. I will always have the memory(and about 50 pictures LOL).I agree with Ian, you look at the size of the old bombers from the outside and expect the inside to be cavernous. Even the B17 was cramped. You have to walk on a small catwalk to get from the waist to front of the aircraft. It was a little tricky even with light turbulence.Nick
May 21, 200521 yr Yup, I concur. This is a good package (with a special kudo for the sounds) that I thought gave a substantial return for the money! The same company that did ** (shockwave productions)is getting close to the release of Battle Of Britain II - Wings of Victory; this one is also on my agenda. After flying the B-17, try the B-29. See if you can get this one a hundred feet off the ground without stalling :-eek. You really have to fly this one 'by-the-numbers.' It's a bit of a challenge.-GeorgeM at 5B6
