May 22, 200521 yr I have seen it referred to on the Realair website and in these forums - but can't really understand just what it is.Thanks Barry
May 22, 200521 yr >I have seen it referred to on the Realair website and in>these forums - but can't really understand just what it is.>It just adds the pefect amount of "shake" to the panel and airframe for an added sense of flying, instead of the lonely solitude of really just sitting on a desk chair! It's also adjustable.L.Adamson
May 22, 200521 yr It's also commonly referred to as "head latency" effects. It's intended to simulate the fact that your head isn't attached to the frame of the plane by a steel strut or something. In reality, as you apply control inputs or as the plane moves in response to air currents, your head moves slightly apart from it. If done properly and not overdone, the effect can really add to the sense of motion and the feeling of being inside the plane rather than mounted to it.If you watch this vidclip:http://members.shaw.ca/ZevSpace6/SF260_2005.wmvabout 1:10 seconds in theres a section where I'm zoomed in on the compass. Notice how the panel and the structure of the plane moves/bounces/jostles around? I'm not actually panning the view manually at all there - that's the head latency (Realview) effects cuasing that movement.
May 23, 200521 yr Since Active Camera users have this latency anyway, does Real Air's additional application of it not confuse things? Anyone tried the two together? I don't want to end up throwing up over my keyboard ... :-bla Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
May 23, 200521 yr Nah, works fine. You just go into Active Camera's settings and uncheck the head latency effects there. Actually, you can disable either ACs or RealAirs effects in-game through their own settings pop-ups but I figure RealAir's effects probably are more tightly integrated with the plane than those of a third party app so I use them (same goes for the Spitfire)...
May 23, 200521 yr Does anyone use head Latency effects with Track IR? I have it selected but don't notice any effect. I'm not sure I would want the effect anyway, but I am curious as to what others have experienced.Tony
May 23, 200521 yr hmm, I suppose it's possible that the TIR functionality actually sort of masks the head latency effects becuase you are likely constantly looking around or making little view adjustments. I know the effects are less notice-able while I'm panning around with the mouse too.
May 23, 200521 yr HelloI have it selected at the moment in the 260 and turned off in the Spitfire and notice no difference , I guess that the natural motionwe get with the trackIR masks anything else.Tell you what, this Addon and TrackIR were made for each otherI am going to have a hard time flying any of my other planes after this and the Spitfire.
May 23, 200521 yr A couple of points here chaps:RealView in head latency mode is we believe the smoothest and most believable head latency effect for our own aircraft. The reason for this is because it is finely tuned, whatever settings you have, to co-ordinate precisely with our flight model. Furthermore, when you do extreme manouevres, this does not upset the motion of the latency effect and you can even spin violently without throwing the effect off balance. The other important thing about RealView is that it is slaved to the stall buffeting effect. But you can adjust both this and latency to your own preference.Kind Regards,Rob Young www.realairsimulations.com Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
May 23, 200521 yr Hi:I have TrackIR VE as well as the Spit and SF260 upgrade. If I am agressive with the RealView settings, I get a nice latecy effect that shinbes through my movements with TrackIr-especially so at the stall. I opted out of the camera addon when it was relaesed as payware becuase the latency feature did not work with TrackIr installed.
May 23, 200521 yr RA RealView head latency feature is the best effect you can have since it tuned for a specific flight model (with best *.air file as only RA can do). Active Camera head latency effect is a kind of "standard" effect applicable to any aircraft --> less precise. The same applies to the Active Camera buit-in stall buffeting effect that we implemented since FS2002 version. I recall we used Rob's SF260 as test bed for developing this feature. As for Track IR/Active Camera/RealView here are some personal comments :1. TIR head latency is based on natural slight head movements, depending on the user's behaviour2. RealView and Active Camera are based on GForce data, so providing a more realistic/logic head movement (as I felt during 220 hours real aerobatics on Extra, Pitts, Decathlon .., ask Larry (LAdamson) another aerobatics pilot)
