March 10, 200620 yr I just got a laptop second hand, Toshiba Satelite Pentium 4 3 gighz 1 gig of ram to add to my network. It has service pack 2 already installed.Fs9 ran terrible on it until I removed Norton AV what a hog. Now runs fine with medium to high settings and default aircraft, scenery. Don't know how much SP2 is affecting performance but no crashes or weird behavior occured. Still leery about updates but the choice is yours. FS9 at least runs with it as it comes out of the box. Installing 9.1 patch lets see what happens.
March 10, 200620 yr Even if SP2 has an effect on performance it's well worth it.Security, stability, etc. etc. It's only dumbos and terminal Microsoft haters using pirated versions (which are also dumbos) that don't keep their operating systems up to date.Of course as soon as they get burned they immediately know to blame Microsoft for not releasing security updates...
March 11, 200620 yr I neither hate Microsoft nor run a pirated version of Windows, nor unlike you have insulted anyone on this forum. I just expressed a different point of view that has worked for me which you are not required to follow. Furthermore, it is this kind of childish behavior that destroys the inciteful discussion in which we participate to advance our hobby. In the interest of not creating an all out war that will benefit no one I will not post again in this thread.
March 11, 200620 yr well,I just up-graded to this new Beta 2 Defender, and, guess what, I can't up-date the definitions, it keeps telling me I have the wrong diskette in either the floppy drive, or drive two,and then some gobbledygook lines of numbers after it.I have no idea what this means, or what it's about, all I know is that I am running definitions from 44 days ago,I just wish there was a site that I could go and get the older Beta 1 again, I found that version much easier to get to know and use,and as for the comments that they have made the "improvements to the Beta 2 by way of user comments and requests," well, that has made me even more concerned as to who they were listening to, as I find it totally vague an un-informative.if anyone has a link for the Beta 1, please post it here, this Beta 2 is absolutely rubbish.thanks,
March 11, 200620 yr This is for Anti-Spyware, but the definitions won't be updated after July: (Maybe by then Defender will have the kinks worked out)http://www.filehippo.com/download/88f74710...25a33/download/Or you can try this:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915105
March 13, 200620 yr After reading all the above posts, I just went the the MS SP2 page and read the "10 most important reasons for downloading SP2". It seems to me that they are all about Windows Internet Explorer, which I never use ( I use Firefox). and the Windows Firewall, which I use anyway.. So are there other reasons for downloading it?
