Service Pack 2

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,Microsoft has a new anti-spyware out called "Defender" and it requires SP2. So far I've been reluctant to upgrade to SP2 because of the possibility of it not playing nice with FS9. Who's all running Service Pack 2 without any FS9 problems? Thanks,Tom

Zero problems with SP2 here.

No problems with SP2 but Windows Defender BETA is buggy.

I sure hope you have broadband, SP2 is almost 100 megs, and there are about 50+ more updates after that. But it is necessary to keep your computer up to date and secure. You will probably see FS9 run better as well. Just make sure you turn off the windows firewall after the install, and other various useless programs that are reactivated by MS

Ditto on all the above. no probelms

Have one rig running with it and another without (design rig, less bloated), no problems on either with FS. You'll find most updates from MS require SP2, every time I do security updates on my non SP2 machine, it tries to install it. Just get a 3rd party app for AV and firewall if concerned.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

If the intention is solely to install the Defender product, then I'd say don't install SP2. Wait until Windows Vista is released and install that instead. You can ONLY mess up a perfectly serviceable installation of XP!Defender isn't worth it, and there are many alternativesAllcott

XP without SP2 is not a perfectly servicable installation, especially not in the security department. And wait for vista? are you kidding me? just wait until the vista SP2 is released, before then, it will be full of bugs and security holes

Isn't defender a multi platform rebuild of the Giant Antispyware? I will be interested to know why is it buggy? Since it plays a important role in my machine.Jos

No problems at all with SP2, and I've been using it since it came out in August 2004. I'm not sure why the negative folklore has sprung up. Fixed bugs and improved security are good things, not things to be feared.

Jim, Jim, Jim.... as a moderator, you set an example. :) Could you please adhere to our requirements for the number of images in your messages (as in 1)? I am sure our forum email box will be spared countless ranting emails about unequal enforcement of the rules if you do settle down to one image. :)
